More than just the Pixies gig... sounds great! Chem Bros in Marley... Brilliant!!!

Top acts promise summer of music in Dublin
    20/04/2005 - 12:25:47

A host of top international acts are set to take over the capital this summer as part of a massive rock and dance extravaganza.

The lengthy list of bands playing as part of BudRising 2005 include The Pixies, Kings of Leon, Scissors Sisters, Franz Ferdinand, Maroon 5, the Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx and DJ Mylo.

The four massive outdoor events will rock Dublin’s Lansdowne Road stadium and Marley Park in August.

The top international acts will be following on the back of a seven day rock ’n’ roll extravaganza – the BudRising Festival – which will blitz Dublin in June.

The week-long festival will pave the way when it kicks off on June 1 with live performances from Echo and the Bunnymen at The Village and Whitey at Whelans.

Scottish DJ Mylo, up-and-coming Irish band The Chalets, Beck, The Hives, Tom Vek, Weezer, British Sea Power and The Kills will also play at different venues around the capital.

One of the festival organisers said: “It is bigger and better this year. This is the second year of BudRising now, and there is a lot more buzz around the festival.

“We have taken what worked well last year and concentrated that, as last year it ran over 10-days and there were 100 gigs.

“This year will see the bands play 23 venues over a seven-day period, it is all about quality music.

She added: “It has a tight programme. We are aiming to create a festival feel right in the city centre.”

Other acts performing at BudRising in June will include the recently reformed Las, Buck 65 and soul legend Marlena Shaw.

Tickets are already on sale for the week-long series of gigs, while tickets for the four shows in August can be purchased from Friday, May 6.

The Pixies and the Kings of Leon are to take to the stage at Lansdowne Road on August 23 – after The Pixies rocked almost 120,000 music fans in the Phoenix Park last summer.

The following day the Brit award winning Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand & Maroon 5 will set the massive stadium jumping.

The Chemical Brothers are also set for a return trip following their sell-out gig at the Point earlier this year. The band will set the scene at Marley Park on August 19, while Basement Jaxx, Underworld and DJ Mylo will get the party started the following night.

Tickets for the Lansdowne Road gigs will cost from €59.50 including booking fee, while Marley Park is priced from €54.50.

Music fans can also snap up tickets for all four gigs for €150.

cheers dude. missed them last year cos I couldnt stomach the rhcp blandfest but will have to make an effort this time. expensive tickets though considering oxegen day costs 64.50 + 2.00 booking fee.... you never know they may add extra acts too. Tuesday isnt ideal with work but sure we'll see...

yeah but is it a bud rising event or something? that piece confused the feck out of me, mentioning bud rising when it doesn't seem to have any real connection to it... It was more like a piece about the rising festival than the new gigs.

Budrising is the sponsor. MCD the promoter and production.

    Jesus.

Sonic Youth are supporting The Chemical Brothers in Marley Park.

    http://www.sonicyouth.com/main/index.html (go to tour dates)

Bit odd don't you think? Would've thought Pixies would have been a more suitable band to slap them under.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

    Didnt maroon5 play last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,875 ✭✭✭Seraphina

**** sake, i wanna see sonic youth, but not the chemical brothers, why'd they ****ing stick them together?
totally unsuitable, what kind of schmuck decided that?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭antifyre

    Hey....

Are Maroon 5 and FF supporting the 'Sisters, or are is it SS and Maroon 5 supporting the Franz????

Hot Press says one thing, TicketBASTARD says another.....

Bloody people with their unmade minds and tons of bands to spoil us with....

they were scheduled (I think in the Village), but it got cancelled.
And that was just as they were hitting big time... lots of disappointed fans.

I'd say the main act is FF, then SS then Maroon 5.

Maroon 5 were supposed to play The Ambassador but then had to pull some dates including Dublin.

Lansdowne is SS headling, then Franz, with Maroon opening.

Looking forward to seeing the Kings! Was surprise at how good the second album was.

Along with the FF and SS tickets

Wonder how long it will take for them to shut it down?!

Or maybe Ticketbastard decided to sell them early as they plan on selling the U2 tickets on May 6th?!

    OMG NO! FÚCK THAT!!

Pixies+Sonic Youth would have been the best fúcking gig ever!

Chemical Brothers?? I haven't even heard them!

    NOT FAIR!

    good point...

Scissor S , Franz F and Maroon 5.... arent they just all "one album wonders" at the moment?
Pathetic when you think about it

They wil all be gone in a year or two. But Scissor Sisters are the one band that I actually hate having to listen to, they are that bad.

Probably only at the last minute if the others don't sell out at their ridiculous prices

Sure they're on sale now! They're all on sale. not just the Pixies tickets

    Thank god someone else,

I think the Scissor Sisters are like the Darkness ... initially you think "Umm, interesting" but after the hundred "Gon'a take your momma out all night!" you want to throw the radio at the wall

They are the ones you want to buy quick because I presume once 1 of the gigs sells out they can't sell these anymore.

FF must be having a new album coming out soon, they were better in Olympia than Oxegen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 536 ✭✭✭Evil Sausage

Wasnt it the Ambassador they played? Moved from The Village?!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 152 ✭✭Drum boy

    YAY, BUCK 65!!!!!

    Can't wait!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 764 ✭✭✭jmc

They did The Ambassador gig (moved up at The Village) back in April last year, then 2 nights at The Olympia back in October.

Buck's shows are always fantastic! Have seen him twice in Whelans and both were different equally entertaining. Brilliant, funny, guy.

anyone else think it should be pixies with KOL and FF supporting. that would be one excellent gig. i cant believe FF are supporting SS, they are such a load of sh*t as are maroon 5.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 517 ✭✭✭hacktavist

Anyone want to guess how long the pixies tickets will be on sale for? Or do you think they will sell out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Am I the only person who thinks that Chemical Brothers and Sonic Youth on the one bill will be a great gig? Although it depends on the crowd I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

The ads on TV still say they are on sale from may 6. Pixies has not sold a lot, you can tell by the seats still on sale. They better put some more support on early, gates are at 4pm so you cant be sure when KOL will be on.
