I recently went to my GP which is Holland, Ryan & Guerret on Lower Baggot Street. It was a straightforward consultation. 5 minutes. No extra tests or anything like that. It was €75.

    That is absolutely insane.

    Maybe try somewhere else ?

My local GP charges €35, and thats enough of a rip off for me.

Shop around, I work on Henry St, and had to go twice in the last 6 months. Both GP's were 10 minutes walk from work. There was a difference of €5 iin the prices.

Interesting thing was, one place was offering a well man consultation (a full MOT for guys) it was €85; the other place was charging €140 for an STD test. The Wellman covered an STD test.

It was a once off. No choice.

And I have written them a letter.

no offence but baggot street is a well to do sort of area. with property prices there at 600-700 euro a square foot with the type of clients they get id say 75euro isnt a lot of money. like everyone says shop around.

your doctor must be good if he can charge 75 euros,

i dont feel as guilty cause its paying them back for 9 yrs+ training. in 5 min a doctor can diagnose your illness as something simple and stops you worrying about leukemia or cancer.

i paid 100 euros for a locksmith to come to my gaff. i doubt he had as much training.

Ha ha ye are all being taken for a bunch of schmucks my GP is €20 yes €20 he is a lovely guy and really covers everything. Pity he's retiring in a few years though. He was IR£20 and kept it at €20 he actually took a pay cut as hes so committed to his patients.

We had to bring my daughter to a local one last week, since we were new to the area we didn't know who was good and not good.

His first comment was that she didn't look ill, when my girlfriend told him what was wrong he asked what she wanted him to do her answer was to make my daughter better to which he replied "I'm sure I have a bottle of holy water somewhere here".

Now I often joke with my customers / clients but I sell technology solutions and always make sure they know I am joking. he onteh other hand didn't come across as joking at all.

forgetting about price I think the best guage is how long you have to wait for a GP- the longer the better, people obviously want to see that one.

Did you ask about the price when you booked the appointment?

hes probably a good GP thats got down about peoples unreliastic expectations and this then reflects on everyone. take into account he probably sees very ill people and this would 'warp' his sense of reality slightly. doesnt take away from his GP skills but from his communication skills.

    You're having a laugh right?

I went to a doctor on Lower Baggot Street and he was €40. That's bad enough. €75 is ludicrous

The problem for me is this: there are a lot of bad doctors out there. One time a doctor told me I had a phobia of computer and need hypnosis. (wTF?) The reality was I am sensitive to caffeine and need to drink less of it in work.

Another time a doctor tested me for STDs. He left the door open (so customers could see me) and used a very dirty bed to lie on. I was like, ummm wtf are you doing. Needless to say his advice was terrible.

Seriously. There are many idiots in the world, doctors included.
