At home I want to set up a central music server to store all my music. I am leaning towards daapd on a linux box as its easily discoverable to other network clients with a minimum of fuss.

For the last six months or so I've been using iTunes on my laptop and windows box at home - they can share music effectively. My other half recently got an iPod Shuffle and she uses iTunes to sync songs to it.

One problem with iTunes is not being able to directly sync music to an iPod from another machines shared music. This obviously ruins my plans. I could share out the music from the server via samba and load it as a network share on any required machines, but this is not ideal and extra hassle as daapd "just works" with minimal effort.

To compound the problem I have a Creative Zen with crap syncing software, which is not iTunes compatible. There is now a nomadzen winamp plugin that works well enough to be usable. Winamp has also had an iPod plugin for a while which I will be trying out shortly. However winamp doesnt do daapd.

Does anyone know of anything that might suit my needs? Seamless discovery and sharing of music on a (wireless) network where that music can be synced to any installed mp3 players?
