    in itunes:
    go to preferences
change import type form AAC ENCODER to MP3 ENCORDER.
then select all the music u want to convert to MP3 and rightclick( or click + CTRL) and choose : CONVERT SELECTION TO MP3.

    voila

A later version of iTunes though.

AAC afaik is a more compressed version of mp3 isn't it? Therefore you shouldn't lose much quality, if any. What compression are you going to use forthe mp3s? Does it have to be small file sizes?
