Exchange upgraded ?

First, apologies up front if these are slightly stupid questions...

I live 3 miles from Barna Exchange Galway. Barna exchange is in the
process of being enabled for DSL. I was told by Eircom that good dial up
speeds were an indication of eligibility for Broadband when it becomes
available. It seems that at least some of this exchange upgrade has
occured as some numbers connected to this exchange are passing
the line test via Eircoms web site. Mine is not.

    Questions.

    1) Is dial up speed any sort of indicator of eligibility ?
    2) When an exchange is upgraded is it total or gradual ? i.e are all
numbers in an exchange DSL enabled at once.
    3) Is it possible that your line fails the test but is actually DSL capable.
How would someone know this ?
    3) Is there any way to know when this work is complete. I have
    tried Eircom to little avail.

    Thanks

I had a phone line that was no good for any sort of dial-up including fax. It passed for DSL though and I had DSL for a couple of years with no trouble on the line. It is a rough indicator at best.

Generally, if you can get good (50k+) speeds, you will probably be able to get DSL. 3 miles is in the grey, though. You'll just have to get the line tested to check availability.

AFAIK (And this is what an eircom dsl guy told me on the phone last week)
He said that the eircom DSL call-center(18507300730) don't know when specific exchanges will be upgraded. But he said that the guys on the main eircom BB number know when specific exchanges will be upgraded(another 1850- anyone know it?)

**edit** Its something like 1850109309 if memory serves, which it obviously doesn't ;)
