Just been in Japan, and some friends there have asked me to send them a massive big flag for the match next month - about a 40-footer.

Where would I get such a thing? Internet? Shop? Any help much appreciated.

Try here or you could get them custom made here

Have you heard of google? :)

Thank you for your help, DubGuy. Yes, I tried Google but didn't find your sites there.

Are you going to Japan for the match yourself? You'll find the country interesting. After the unfailing courtesy and tact of every Japanese person I met or saw, it was a culture shock to return to Europe.

Ah.... unfortunately these sites only have small flags. If anyone else can suggest any sites for buying a 40-foot flag, this would be great.

You probably would have to buy the material and make it yourself.

That's what we had to do - Go to a fabric shop in town and buy the fabric you need and stitch it together

What material did you use, and where did you buy it, Funkstard? I may sew a flag - though I think I'll just buy two of the biggest I can find and send them over.

On the other hand, I've also asked my friends where they got the 40-foot Japanese flag they use for Japan-v-AnyoneElse matches - maybe that company would be able to make them an Irish flag of the size they want.

Em, as far as I remember the cheerleaders went into town and looked in various fabric shops unil they found the one that had the most suitable/sufficient fabric.

After they got the different colours needed, they used a few sewing machines to stitch them together

Just go in and tell them what you need, they'll either be able to sort you out or tell you where to go.

Contact your local secondary school about a project for their Junior Cert Home Ec class. I'd love to have done something like this, rather than bloody pincushions and aprons.

How does one post a flag that size?

    Very big envelope.
