if you have an o2 phone you get 250 free webtexts a month, national or international.

I use them to text my brother in Oz on his Oz mobile without any problems.

buy an o2 sim card and then register it and stick it in a drawer somewhere and use the webtext facility?

There is one site but I am not going to post it as although they allow you to free text they spam the crap out of anyone and everyone you know.

that's not a bad idea, but if you dont use a sim for a while, do they cut you off?

No, they don't cut you off but you have o actually use the sim card in your phone in order to avail of web services (they txt u a security code).

Best bet is to sign up to pigsback.com etc.

look worse case scenario you need to have the sim in a phone for half an hour so you can get a code texted to you.

do it in your meteor phone and then put it in the drawer.

There is no cut off point so long as you recieve or make a call every 9 months. The only thing is that people might reply to that number!
