    Hey folks.

Just wondering does anybody have any tips on how best to ensure your baby doesn't receive unwanted attention from thieves, vandals etc.

I ask with particular emphasis on those easy access soft-tops!

I figure that classics aren't a big target for joy-riders, or car thieves, but are probably a bigger target for roof slashers or begrudgers.

Any advice other then hide your valuables? Steering locks? Alarms?

    CHEERS!

Keep it indoors, away from even giving any scum a chance to touch it.

I can't imagine they could figure out how to start mine, never mind steal it :)

I agree with you about the begrudgers - i've been keyed and some unprintable kicked in the front wing of my friend's DS. It's very depressing. It's not like the car says "Look at me, I'm RICH!!!"

Unfortunately I don't have a garage, and the missis won't have it in the living room!

I've heard of some classic soft-top owners who leave the car unlocked so that their roof won't get slashed open to root through an empty glovebox.

I used to leave the doors open on my old Fiat Uno (88) the whole time, come back to find someone had been in it, but left as there was nothing to steel. However, once I left one of the doors locked and they broke that door to get in *sigh*

On the mustang I keep it out of sight as much as possible, other end of a carpark, that sort of thing, but I did invest in an alarm with a fob that beeps/vibrates when the alarm goes off. Tested the range to about 500m, its pretty good. I never really feel happy bringing the mustang anywhere and leaving it, I'm always keeping an eye out for it.

For converts you can get a microwave sensor instead of the ultrasonic, it will work with your roof down!

    Thanks guys.

I've been scouring eBay for a self-fitting alarm that looks half decent.
I saw those "cliffords" there so I'll take another look.

    :)

As Mustang68 says a convertable is such an easy target you really have to stay fairly close to it - preferably able to keep it under observation. If your car is off the street its not too bad but if its parked on the street its only a matter of time before some scumbag has a go at it
