Warning - newbie pc gamer alert

A controller that you can buy in game - will this work with all games or does it have to be configured with the PC. Just have a basic Dell P4 machine and want to play games like Hitman etc and don't want to use a mouse and keys etc.

I have tried to use the controller with Sum of all Fears that I got free from a mate but it wouldnt work

Are there only some games that will work? - If I buy the hitman series of games will my basic controller from game work?

Appreciate your help and comments before I buy the games and are then disasppointed

For a standard controller if you set the keys ingame you can usually use the controller, if the game has set keys that cannont be changed ingame you can't use the controller. However... if you have a wingman or a good enough game pad it comes with software to set the functions of the controllers keys. i.e. you can set the a button to v on the keyboard, you can set the DPad as a,w,s,d for or you can set them to the up, down, left, right key, etc.... From using crappy €10 game pads in the past i found that they work with most games. A lot of games also have gamestick/joypad options aswell.

btw.. i'm using a logitech wingman cordless, tis a great controller, i think it's cheap enough too. I bought mine over a year ago for around €50

Guess your new to PC gaming. And a console buff.

A lot of PC gamers wouldnt like to use controllers and would much prefer to use the mouse + keyboard. Especially for first person games like unreal tournament etc. I cant get the hang of using console controllers for those types of games.

    Anyways, on topic...

AFAIK, Its possible to get a usb converter for the PS2 controller and use it on a PC. Dunno if it works with every game or how good it is.

    Google it! :D

Will Play ship them to Ireland? I thought they only delivered 'gadgets' to the UK.

    get joy2key at http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html
It took me ages f'ing around with the settings but I eventually got the thing to work with my PS2 Gamepad connected via a USB converter to the PC.
You map keys to the joypads buttons and analog sticks and you're all set.
This is particularly useful when you want to use your joypad whilst playing games that don't support them - like Far Cry.
