What the hell am I doing wrong. I am trying to connect 2 computers via a router. Both network cards work fine. I am using a new roll of cat 5e. I have the crimper and am using the 568B wiring in the plugs on both ends. The net work card is saying I have limited or no connectivity. is there any knack that I should know about?

Turn off that damn firewall that come with win xp! I hate that thing and it has caused me so much pain in the past! Also make sure you use something like 192.168.0.1 for the ip address on the first pc and 192.168.0.2 on the second pc! You will then get a warning looking for the subnet mask... Just accept the default of 255.255.225.0 All should then work!

Sounds like you have the machines set to use DHCP (i.e. get an IP address automatically) but there is no DHCP server available.

Do what galwaydude said - set static IP addresses in the same subnet.
