Army Building

Here's just a general question to all of you..

Do any of you find it difficult to finish an army?

I'm just wondering what your process is for the building of an army (any scale). Most people I would've (it's been a while) gamed with would have the same kind of problem. In that you pick the army you want to collect, usually with some sort of theme and go about getting it. Then usually half way through the process letting it go by the wayside infavour of either a new army, new game system or just not feeling like you want to continue with that army for whatever reason!

On a personal level I usually find that once I find myself with the desire to actually clear the cobbwebbs off an army and start on it, or continue with it as the case may be, that almost straight away Im looking at another army I own.
As Im sure you can imagine this can lead to having many (many) unfinished armies in boxes.

So once again, how do you guys go about it? Do you have any problems with finishing an army? How long does it normally take you to finish an army of an average 1500 points (Of any GW game)

    Cheers
    A.

Yeah when i played years ago when i was a teenager i never finished any one proper army cause i kept getting little bits of other stuff, bought a few space wolves, out comes imperial gurad, out comes necrmunda and i have to get some orlocks, out comes the exspansion and i had to buy some spyrers and it always pissed me off that my friends stopped playing and so i never bothered finishing any of it.

but now i have decided to take it up again and start a space wolves army and finish it, in fact i just bought myself a rhino and some new plastic termies in GW today.

I only have one (relatively) finished DA army. I had my eye on IG for a while but then i thought i'd better finish my existing army. I actually have a thread which is loosely related to this one so i won't bore you all with stuff you've probably read already.

I built an imperial guard army, lost it, started again, friends stopped collecting, etc....

I had the full 1500 points at one stage though, after forking out for the Imperial Guard Steel Legion Armageddon set. :)

I've about 2000pts of orcs and goblins painted, another 500 built, another 750 unbuilt. A lot of unneccesary models, but most were cheap.
In 40k I've got about 500 pts of Eldar painted, another 500 unbuilt/painted.

And I've just started a new marine army.
    It'll never get finished.
    Or even started.

Yes it takes the most determined gamer with balls of ceramite to truly see an army through to completion. Although there is no real way to "finish" an army. I mean there'll always be something new out that'll catch your eye (i.e. new termies, don't judge me! there so cool! must have!) and so ultimately you'll end up with an enormous 10,000 point army which you can't do anything with because it consists largely of badly converted HQ troops.

Speaking from personal experience mind you......except i don't have 10,000 pts of models.

Heh - finishing an army does take a lot of effort and it's always an ongoing process as you try new units out. My Space Wolves army has something in the way of about 3000+ points available to it. My epic armies are even worse ... At last count my army of the imperium is over 10000 points (under 2nd ed) - Marines, Imp.Guard artillery, Superheavy tanks and Titan Legions. My Eldar alaitoc army is around the 7500 point range. I've never ever managed to field a game above 5000 points

Heh I havent touched Warhammer in about 3-4 years now at least but I used to collect them. Ive got a marines army (dont we all :p ) a Dark elder army (by far my favourite much more tactical fights with them than with marines), thats in 40k and in warhammer I have a reasonably small High Elves army that I love and I began to build up a Vampire Counts army but gave up around the same time as I though It was to expensive a habbit :p

As for army building of course its tough, there is always something missing from your army, or they bring out a new character that you must simply have ;) thats part of the fun I suppose and part of the reason they make so much money ;)

As for a 1,500 points battle I dunno how long it would last. Depends what army is fighting what and wither you are playing against a decent player ;)

I always started out small and built it up round that. lets say 500 pts u can feild them in a battle and u get to know what u like and dont like, then expand by another 250pts, play with them see whatr u like and odnt like and then again and another 250 pts.etc etc.. it always worked well for me and it leaves with a lot of choice.

i have no idea how to finish my armies. but if you start as chaos and continue with an army like space marines or guard it is easy to convert them to chaos and so on.
