Anyone got any ideas on this - just got a 9800pro off boards and plugged it into my at7 board (kt333 chipset). Now the machine wont boot. If I put back in my gf ti 4400 - everything works again and the machine boots as normal.
I've had a 6600gt in the machine before and it booted fine, so it should be a power problem - other than that Im stumped.

    Anyone got any ideas ?

i used to have a VIA Kt333 board with a 9800 Pro and i had no problems. What type of power supply do u have?

on your screen, what comes up when u switch the power on, if anything?

How far does it get while booting?

nothing come up - the screen doesnt come on
Tried resetting the cmos - no joy
I have a 350w one - dont know the make off the top of my head but i would assume if a gf 6600gt worked then a 9800pro should work - i plugged out all the drive except primary hd anyway, just to be sure. All the fans come on, on the mb and the 9800pro

This may sound stupid but did you try cheking the connection between your monitor and the card is not loose? Simple but it can happed! Also did you try to reset the card in its slot?

ive taken out the 9800pro a few time and replaced it with teh ti4400 - tweaking some bios settings trying to get the 9800pro to work. So i've unplugged and reseated the card about 10 times today already :(

Did you try the card in another pc just to rule out that its not a faulty card?

Have to say it sounds like a dead card. Test it on another machine.

I'm thinking the same myself but he needs to try the card in another machine to make sure! Is there any beeps when you turn on the pc?

Got the secondary power connector (4-pin Molex) connected to the end of the 9800 pro? Sounds silly but its the same mistake I made with mine when I first installed it - PC would not boot without it connected.

god I forgot about that connection! Have that card in my pc.... I'd say he more than likely has it in as he has taken the card out a few times already today (but then again maybe he did forget it!)

May not be enough juice in the PSU either.

nah 350w should suffice for that card but then again it depends what optical devices etc. he has connected to the power supply!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭voxpop

yeah ive connected the extra power connector - just tried the card in a compaq i have here - and nothing. The compaq does only have a 250w supply though.

The comp im tryin the card in originally has a 350w supply and ive disconnected all the drives except the primary hd so power shouldnt be a problem.

Dead maybe? any chance of getting your money back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

If that 350W is a qtec then it probably is the PSU that is at fault. Otherwise though, I'd say its something else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭voxpop

nah its not a qtec - its a starnet powersupply seemingly - linky - in italian . Ive run the machine with a gf 6600gt, if that work I dont see how a 9800pro would have a problem

so u have put the 9800 pro into the compaq and it didnt work, so u put the 6600GT in the compaq and it worked.

Your 9800 Pro is wack! Sorry mate but it aint a psu problem.

Id get back in contact with the person u bought it from.

if he had forgotten to connect the power cable to the card a red error message would show up on the screen saying so, the card is dead, tough break

ya defo dead! RMA the card....
