Didn't bother going to see this in the cinema cos it looked run of the mill, but I see here and on IMDB its getting (generally) rave reviews. I've really had my fill of Hollywood thrillers over the last few years, but I'll happily go if it stands out.

    Is it really that good?!

    Excellent movie.

Plot is typical man revenge etc:

but denzel pulls it off quite well. really is a good movie.

Check film reviews forum good thread on it in there.

but what would you say would be a good movie? just too see what your tastes are in films ..im curious..

was very disappointed by it. id usually say if denzel is in it ya cant go wrong but stay away from this one very slow pace to it and nothing ya havent seen before. think proof of life meets the punisher and thats it.

ya mean Sin City? the robert rodriguez adaptation of the frank miller series of graphic novels? it's an adaptation of three of the books, bruce willis' character features in only one of the stories i think. looks bloody brilliant, can't wait!

hmmm well, my tastes are pretty broad......my favourite film of last year was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...other films i would consider good are pulp fiction, fight club, withnail & i, amelie, crouching tiger hidden dragon, la haine, grosse pointe blank, the royal tenenbaums, Sideways, spirited away, spiderman 1 & 2, requiem for a dream, y tu mama tambien, fargo, raising arizona, the evil dead trilogy, battle royale, city of god, leon, the crow, the shawshank redemption, the iron giant, lord of the rings trilogy, akira, once upon a time in the west, the graduate, Aliens....i could go on but i haven't got all night

I watched it a few months ago and thought it was fantastic.
Denzil as ever is great, and the little girl(Dakota Fanning?)is superb in it too.

    Highly recommended.

    Ok just finished it.

I'm not majorly disappointed - it is good; acting, cinematography, etc. But the overall story was fairly predictable, and there was some major over emphasis on the growing bond between the two: definatley for the slow ones in the audience!

I prefered the alternate ending too - we actually guessed that's what would happen but alas they left it out!

Either way I'm pretty happy with it for a hollywood film that I took to be run-of-the-mill when it was in the cinema.

    Thanks!

    Tough crowd,

the way i see it is now movies are being produced at the drop of a hat, floodgates have been opened where anyone can now make anything kind of drivel they want and theres a mighty high chance it will end up in the cinema, so now we are at the stage where we have wasted so many of our hard earned euros on tripe that it has made us hyper-sensitive to watching a films so a film that would of been fantastic 5years ago is only just ok now.

Films like Lord of the rings have really set the bar high and i look forward to the day the bar goes higher....that will be a good day.

i was just about to post a thread about this......

watched it no less than 15 mintues ago

absolutly amazing i taught it was one of the best films ive seen in a long time, it ranks close to some of my favourites. Denzel was brilliant. i taught the flow of the film worked perfectly, it was slow and steady as he was getting to know her then it just exploded and went at a much faster pace. the cameras and everything worked brilliantly..... im really suprised at how much i enjoyed this.

excellant movie and im going to have to add it to the collection!

Well I woulda been 5 years younger too and probably thought it was class! But seriously, I totally understand why it's seen as a great - I thought it was a very good film, but just flawed in a few places. i.e. I didn't waste my hard earned cash alright, but I wouldn't buy the DVD!

Man on Fire One of the best movies I've seen in the last 2 years, Great performances from Denzel, Dakota & the rest of the cast were excellent including Mr J Lo, Chris Walken & Micky O'Rourke! And remember this is from Mr Tony Top Gun Scott, good commentary track from him as well. My main problem now is which edition to buy on DVD, as I know the US one has an extra comm track, but it doesn't have the docu that the spec ed edition has here.

    Snake ;)

Good movie, didnt think it was gonna be any good but was well impressed. Rent it !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

i thought it was a bit poo

take 1 drama/thriller & 1 action movie, cut the end off the former and the start off the latter and paste together

and i just dont like denzel, i dont think he is a good actor
    6/10

Forgot to add that the wife is a really poor actress. I watched the deleted scenes and if they'd left some of them in maybe her character would have seemed a little more tangible.

worth watching just for the ridiculously fancy ass editing, very enjoyable bit of trash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭StopWatch

hmm interesting, i thought it started out well enough, bit flashy, but kinda cool, then it just got progressively more ridiculous, the last half hour! holy crap, what a load of overblown turdburger, maybe i expected too much after reading from people who thought it was the best thing since the thong...hmmmm that'll learn me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 637 ✭✭✭TOPDAWG

ITS ABOUT TIME!! thought i was the only person on the planet who didnt like this (until i saw the last 5 threads) and never mind a tad predictable!!! but if ya cant suss out whats happening/gonna happen then you probably havent seen any kind of thriller before. i know i know "one mans meat is another mans poison etc etc" but it takes a lot more than good camera work to make a flick decent and if anything the camera shots in it wrecked my head.

and stopwatch no matter how good a flick is there'll NEVER be a better invention then the thong!! :p

Thought it was good, but that was probably because of Washington's performance. If he was'nt in it and a nobody actor had taken the role it probably would of turned out poor. A good actor can usually carry a movie.

Exactly my thinking. Hes a class actor and was the only reason i saw this flick thro to the end. I know this could get me a bit of grief but i felt the same about Training Day............

im in total agreement with you, i thought training day was a big pile of poo, oooh snoop dog is in it, who gives a crap, denzel deffo didnt deserve an oscar for it(cue comment about why he deserved it for other movie blah blah blah)

i thought Dark Blue was better (dont shout at me)

Was there an alternative ending on the DVD? What happens in it? I was hoping at the end that
Denzel would have one of those ass bombs up his hole and blow the fcukers up as they drove away
. Please tell that's what happens in the alternative ending :D

if any idiot watched that just cause snoop was in it they shud be shot.... has everyone forgotten about "jimmy BOnes"
i know its ur opinion but i cudnt disagree more, training day was a great film

"why did halle have to to let a white man pop her to get an oscar//
Why did denzel have to be crooked before he took it"

Man on Fire is worth seeing for that bit where Christopher Walken's charcter is asked what sort of man Creasy is

"A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece"

P!ssed my hole laughing at that bit!!!!

I really enjoyed it ... I always liked Denzel's work better when he was playing the darker character ... I thought he was great in JohnQ & Training Day
