Now that I have gone off the Mustang as a suitable American classic ( too crude and ugly looking IRL IMO) my thoughts are returning to the 57 Chevy. :p
Anyone have any one of them or are they too expensive to buy or run. They sure look cool

It's not a '57, i think its a 55 or 56...either way its not a '57. There IS a red '57 owned by someone else though. They are VERY pricey for a nice example

    EDIT: this is it:

what is that on the car
'flames' of some sort ? ..........looks terrible, spoils the car !!

I'm not a great fan of american cars, but some do look nice - like the '57 Chevy.

Most American cars look like barges with wheels stuck on - the 57' Chevy is a perfect example of that "Box on wheels" concept. Surely there are other classics that you would rather buy with your money.

I shouldnt encourage you by replying, but what the hell - what kind of cars do you like? Name some examples.

Well each to his own - but IMO American cars from about 55 to 63 are quite nice to look at. The driving experience is another matter though (never driven them) but sure it would not be expected to perform like a modern car. I don't like most of what came later but the 70's Lincoln continental and Ford Mercury looked cool in Cannon and Hawaii Five O and dat.

Full of shat is right how huge a generalisation is "American cars" .When I think box on wheels I think 80s volvo certainly not a 50s chevy. And all american cars ??? what boxy like a classic "coke bottle" corvette??? Back to the modified section with ye philistine, and less a yer lip now

I've always fancied a '58 Plymoth Fury. Under engineered, over styled american farce, but at it's very best. And Stephen King gave it a nice little twist in the tail to make sure values were high.

The film probably helped their subsequent value by scrapping 16 of them ;)

Personally I prefer the '55 Chevy to the '57. It's a purer design imo, with less of the baroque bits and pieces stuck on.

For real baroque stylings nothing beats the '58 Oldsmobile:

I am just wondering if the 59 Caddy would be a bit too flash for Knocknagoshel

The '59 Caddy is simply the most amazing car ever built ! I have a pink one its a Biaritz convertible but unfortunately its only 1:18 scale !! Some day though....without fail !

I nearly bought a perfect '56 Chevy Bel Air a few years back. It was pefectly restored with an uprated engine. Cheap to at about IR£6500 landed !!
