animation career advice

    Im 16 and thinking about animation(either 2d or 3d) or something animation related as a career. does anyone working in the industry have any advice. is there many jobs, what skills are needed, whats a good 3rd level course, any comments/suggestions?

    keep drawing, do storyboards, write stories - buy plasticine and make stuff..

    then put all your best work into a portfolio and apply to a college, IADT wouldn't be a bad choice. Don't pigeon hole yourself by saying you want to do 3d or classical - do it all beautifully and you'll be laughing!

    and yeah, there are jobs out there - especially in advertising and post production studios, and they pay the best guys LOADS of money

    one thing i would say is get into computer generated stuff, not saying you should do all your work in 3d, but understand it well. loads of animators can't get jobs because A, they're crap or B they only know how to do disney style crap on cells - be versatile

    anyway, ur only 16 - go to college first and you'll learn all this anyway
