Hello all, My name is Brianne and I'm writing my senior paper on the celtic goddess, Brigid; I'm trying to prove whether she was pagan or christian. Yes, I know born from paganism was converted to Christian. I believe her relgion was paganism, but I must prove it. I've gotten alot of information and such, but I need more. Anyone feeling free to helping me out with information? Would be muchly apreciated. I have the basic information about her as a saint, goddess, and mother figure.. I also have a few selected prayers also. But I need more mythology of the fact: How is she Paganist over Christianity? Thanks! :D

My thesis statement is: Was the Celtic goddess, Brigid paganist or christian?

You might want to try some of the Irish Folklore and Celtic Civ departments around the country. They'll probably be able to help you. The only story I know of in relation to Brigid was that she was apparently protected by a wall of fire, sent packs of wolves out to rip evil men to pieces and could restore a pregnant womans virginity! As far as I remember was told this by a guy study celtic civ as one of his classes in first year of college many, many moons ago but could be wrong. My mind is like a sponge for useless information but I can't always remember the source and therefore the reliability of the info.

Brighid is the Daughter of the Dagda, one of the more universal deities of the pagan Gaelic world. She is known as the Goddess of Healers, Poets, Smiths, Childbirth and Inspiration; Goddess of Fire and Hearth and a patron of warfare or Briga. Her soldiers were called Brigands. Her name means "Exalted One." She is also known as Brigantia, Brid, Bride, Briginda, Brigdu, and Brigit

Before Bird/Bridget was a pagan or a chrsitain she was a Goddess.

Bridget the person would have been named after her and would most definatly with the most of Eire been a pagan, or at least aware of the pagan beliefs of those arround her.

You cant go back and find out for sure what was believed there are no records but the long standing traditions on Brids wells and lady's well give us some clues.
