couture closing the distance and timing himself to get in before liddell can unload - tiring him out and frustrating him with a tko in round 4 - typical couture dirty boxinging & ground n' pounding his way to another stopage - textbook team quest tactics

Liddell will have better hands and will unload some kicks but Randy will still keep crashing that clinch.

The previous fight between these two guys is actually one of the only fights i've seen in full. This guy randy looks very tough. I've been led to beleive he's a wrestler by training who really only introduced a stand up striking game relatively recently. I've also heard his new found confindence on his feet could be his downfall.

He appears very clinical with his punches, and when it goes to the clinch, he has plenty of ability to knock the other guy to the ground and chase his preferred on top position.

so, i reckon more of the same, randy will out f/box him, will get a good go of his p'n'g game (digging the other dude in the head while kneeling on him) but chuck will show a better defense and be able to get out of those positions before it's al l over. so i agree with colum

Randy has it, i reckon. his takedowns and top game are just too strong, I cant see chuck staying on his feet long enough to be able to ko him, and he def. wont get dominant position on the ground

Well seeing that everyones going for Couture I'll give my vote to The Ice Man.
Although I wouldn't put money on it. :D

Don't think i could have been any more wrong. tko in first round. randy got a smack to the eye. the doc checked him and let him go on. then chuck smacked him again. down he went.something fishy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

The Ice Man does it again. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

    Certainly a shocker.

Liddell did indeed sort out his hands.

So who next for the former Champ....?

Obviously a rematch but Silva would be nice!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Yeah the rematch has to be on. I wonder how much the initial eye injury effected Randy, he looked shook afterward. Talk about a sweet shot though, right on the button.

I think Sylvia v Couture would be a nice match up. But Chuck wants Wand at Pride..... nice....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

I dont think Chuck will be let near Pride. Not after the bs by Pride in 2003. Chuck Vs. Silva would be a war though.

Does the term "retard strength" mean anything to any of you guys? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,190 ✭✭✭cletus

no, man. I figured they meant he should try to stop the other guy using his strength or something, but who knows.
theres always lots of strange calls in the commentating, like saying Cote was looking at the clock, when I thought it was pretty obvious that he posturing.

    A sweet knock out

Never mind that vid, has anyone got the vid of Jason 'Mayhem' Millers kip straight into a kick? Hilarious!!! :D

Yeah I noticed that alright. Unless he couldn't roll his eyes it was a pretty big movement to make to look up!

Sorry, kinda hijackin the thread here, but i dont understand the amount of bad calls by Joe Rogan, esp. cosidering he a brown belt or something, under one of the Machado brothers

I think Joe Rogan is a pretty good commentator, what bad class do you think he made ?

Chuck Norris is a bjj black belt afaik.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,190 ✭✭✭cletus

Joe's obviously way ahead of Mr T. in terms of comments :D ( thats some goood wrasslin', what sorta manouvre did ya put on the sucka'), its just that he kinda calls wrong sometimes on what the fighters are doing, and while knowlegable fans will realise, newer fans may not.

The two things that pop directly to mind from last night are the posturing thing i just mentioned, and his apparent inability to pronounce the word guillotine. I'd prefer Joe to Goldberg, but I'd prefer El Guapo to Joe

    mr. t all the way

Personally I prefer Bas Ruttens Pride commentary.

'Man, check out that lump on his head! It's like an aliens gonna pop out'

LikeI said El Guapo > Joe Rogan :D

I didn't really notice any bad calls by Joe Rogan last night.
I prefer Bas too but if you're talking about calling things wrong he does it far more than Joe Rogan

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 63 ✭✭conformist

nah man bas makes all the bad calls

Hey, it could just be that i don't like Joe Rogan, and as a result any mistakes he does make annoys me more.

Doesn't look like anybody else has a problem (except ALL Sherdoggers lol), so this could be the reason. Oh that, and I really HATE Fear Factor :D

    ya what?

I think chuck norris shoudl get the nobel peace prize, anybody that can take on an entire army with a machine gun that never runs out of bullets and actually win has to be honoured

i cant belive that no one is talking about hughes v trigg - i thought that trigg was going to steal another title with his patented groin strike - was loosing faith in hughes after getting through st pierre by the skin oh his teeth (next champ without a doubt) and a controversial points victory before that

Hughes vs Trigg was probably the best fight I've seen this year in terms of drama. We were hopping off the chairs when he picked him up for the slam. Brilliant stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

Just to clear up any confusion, I was crying because my hero - Randy Couture - was knocked out by that Kenpo-doing-mofo Liddell!

Saw the Hughes v Trigg match last night. While people might say Trigg was a prick for pressing the fight after he kneed Hughes in the groin, Trigg mightn't have known he'd hit the groin, and only saw a weakened opponent, so he went for the finish. It's a split second decision and you don't want to back off from what could be your only chance to finish the fight.

As for Hughes, nice recovery, superb slammage!

    Peace Out,
    Colm

I second colm , what a come back!!! Hughes fights off the rear naked, picks trigg up, runs across the octagon and its FROM DOWN TOWN BOOOOM SHACK A LACK!!!! Slam!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,190 ✭✭✭cletus

Delighted to see Hughes win, especially how he did. Spat a mouthfull of beer when I saw that knee, but some come back, and a great sub

i might have agreed but look back at the trigg v hallman wfa fight - where to this day he denies a groin strike while it is clear to everyone what happened - (larry 'clueless' refing to his usual standard didnt help) and the disrespect that he shows to everyone - beyond mind games - he is just an out and out p***k - one of the few people in any ma that i hate - seen plenty of his fights and trigg has no problem with taking a shortcut - he subscribes to the gilbert yvel school of fair play
