Want to Max machine out with RAM what's best for this config

    Hi all,

I have 2 Ram chips (Corsair Value S. PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB) on my motherboard (MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition S754).

My motherboard manual tells me it supports:
    1. Supports Single Memory channel, DDR 400/333/266 without ECC support
    2. Supports memory sizes up to 3GB (for DDR333/266) / 2GB (for DDR400)

I have ONE free slot and want to max my machine out with RAM. What should I buy - I'm a bit lost in the spec here?

PC3200 DDR RAM = DDR400, is this correct?

Can anyone help me pick correctly from this http://www.shop4memory.com/products/ddr-ram.asp

    Cheers

PC3200 is DDR400... i reccommend that you buy an identical stick of the two you already own.

I concur, unless you want to buy 2gb of pc3200 (1gb stick*2) and get rid of what you have already.

Why wouldn't you guys recommend just buying a 1GB stick and putting it in with the two existing 512mb sticks?

    An additional '1Gb DDR PC3200 Value CAS2.5 Dual Channel kit-GeIL' cost €123.97

Were as buying 2GB will cost €273:
    2Gb DDR PC3200 Value CAS3 Dual Channel kit - GeIL cost € 273.55

Ok learn something every day :D

I would go with pc3200 (DDR400) and get whats needed to max out the amount of ram possible.

You can never have too much ram.

Unless you've got 32-bit mem addressing and 4Gig physical...leaving you with no address space for AGP range etc.

    That's 2x 512Meg sticks, not 1x 1Gig
