Hey, I'm getting a new laptop soon and I've narrowed it down to these two, I just have a few questions if anyone can help. I'll be using this laptop for work mostly but want to make sure it'll be able to take care of games like Half Life 2/ Doom 3 and the like.

Which laptop is better for games i.e. processor/gfx card?

Does anyone know if the Dell has a tv out port? The amilo does and i want to be able to rip my dvd's onto the laptop and watch them on a tv instead of just the laptop screen, I've found the restrictive viewing angle on most laptop screens limits more than a couple of people watching the screen comfortably. Also the thought of Doom 3 on a big tv and wireless keyboard/mouse in a dark smokey room appeals to me big style. I noticed that you can pay €43 for a firewire Multimedia Audio/Video Cable Kit? Does this have the same effect?

I might be able to squeeze a few hundred more euro out of somewhere, if someone can recommend something much better for my purposes. Wouldn't mind a bigger hd for one thing.

Does the extra 1.6 inches of a screen make much of a difference?

Yeah, I'd go for the amilo. I was going to buy one of those before Xmas but I ended up getting the Acer Ferrari instead. Basically the exact same specs (except the amilo now seems to have 1024mb ram, and it didnt when i was going to buy it) and I play HL2 nicely, doom3 ecellent, brothers in arms and farcry nicely, so with 1024 you should be able to fly these games.
    Def. go for the amilo

Yeah, the 9300 does but as the lads say, the Amilo is rather nice.

9700 with a Gig ;) - only way to go. buddy has the 9700 and a Gig and it plays Doom III and Farcry no worries, The x300 is a weak card all be it PCI-Express and the other AGP but era sure.

Actually just noticed the processor:eek:,where the hell is that site. I wanna see.

I think this is it, and i'm gonna get it. Has anyone ordered from Www.Jes.de and if so how did they find them?

They are quiet good. Cheap as you can see. The OS and the keyboard will be in German, slightly different and you can reset the OS language.

    Sweet machine

Thanks for the replies, think I'll settle on the amilo.

Elara.ie are getting them in on the 20th apparently. With a regular keyboard I hope.

Good Choice mate. AMD processors are a lot better for gaming than intel.

    I'd go with the 9300 + the 6800go upgrade.

    the A1630 - I have one, a stunning laptop.

Mine is the same spec but has the 3400 instead.

The Amilo is the better of the 2 you listed..

However, you would be far far far better off sticking a 6800Go into the 9300 for a few extra quid. You would probably experience double the performance for very little cost.

The 9700 is now 2 generations behind in terms of laptop graphics processors. The 6800 is the most recent generation of cards.
