Honeymoon in Florida

I'm heading on my honeymoon in August and am in the process of booking themeparks etc in Orlando etc. The only downside about going is that I have to get married first :D . Apart from the Disney things, has anyone got any recommendations about things to do/places to go? There's a rocket launch from Kennedy Space Centre while I'm there and I'm looking forward to that.

On a side issue, does anyone know if I can use an ipod on the plane?

Firstly congrats. If there is a shuttle launch make sure you go see it. We did last August. It was amazing. You will not get anywhere near the launch pad however if you view from space view park near Coco beach you'll have a good view.

Now onto what to do in Orlando. Firstly search boards as I and many others have posted this info loads of times. Get down to the Florida keys if you can. Best theme parks imo are Islands of Adventure, Busche Gardens (Tampa), Universal Studios. If you have kids Magic Kingdom. If not don't bother.

Make sure you check out Bamaha Breeze resteraunt. Amazing food.....

BTW - My post after I saw the shuttle launch -> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=156737&highlight=launch

    Thanks Dave,

The launch is on August 10th and it's the Atlas 5 Mars Orbiter (http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/launches/launchDetails.asp?calendarId=129) early in the morning. Can't wait to see it.

We don't have kids so as advised, might stay away from Magic Kingdom. Did you go to Kennedy Space Centre while you were there? Worth a look I'd imagine.

    Thanks again.

I've been twice. Amazing first time round. Boring second time round. We worth going if you've never been. The shuttle launch is an amazing experience. You know your seeing something you'll never see again. Be aware though if weather is bad it'll probably be cancelled. Fingers crossed it won't be though.

I'm just back from Florida myself, and had a great time there.

I found Kennedy Space Centre very interesting, but you need a full day there (some tour operators offer half day deals). It has plenty of films etc. to keep those with short attention spans (i.e. me) entertained. Also note that billboards advertise that its 45 minutes outside Orlando. It took us an hour and a half to get there (though we got caught in traffic along the way).

As for theme parks, I'd second the above. Islands of Adventure is the best park for the adrenaline addict (I recommend front row seats on the Hulk and Dueling Dragons coaster), and the Spiderman ride is a blast too. I was never at Busch gardens (its an hour or so outside Orlando) but apparently thats nothing but rollercoasters. Universal is tamer, more on the simulation side of things.

Disney's MGM park is the best out of the Disney parks IMHO - the Tower of Terror is good fun. The Magical Kingdom is nice, but the rides (with the possible exception of Splash Mountain) are pretty tame. No beer sold in the Magical Kingdom either.

Seaworld is another theme park I love. They've got a great roller coaster, and their shows are good as well (particularly the killer whale one). Plus in one part they offer free Budweiser, which is always a bonus in the hot weather.

One thing to watch for is the crowds - if your going to the theme parks, get there early, and do the most popular rides first. Also learn about Disney fastpass system and Universals eXpress (they're both the same thing) which allow to you book times for each ride so you can skip the queue. Otherwise you'll be stuck in a two hour queue, which in Orlando isn't very pleasant!
