I can run CAT5 cables between the brick wall and the plasterboard in a house.

Are there any regs on use of pvc pipes behind plaster board or can anyone suggest an alternative ?

It shouldn't be a problem. However keep it well away from power supplies as it can (a) interfere (b) melt the cover on the Cat5.

Fire, while it just might spread inside the cavity, probably can't spread inside the conduit.

If you want to be sure to be sure, add a batten to surround the Cat5.

In Capt'n's first post, he said between plasterboard and brickwork. Is that plasterboard spotted onto block/brickwork, or fixed onto timber studs.

Might be an issue if there is timber studwork close by.

There is about 3 inches between the wall and the plasterboard, filled with mineral wool and the plaster is screwed on to a metal frame
