NTL outdoor box !!

    Hi to all,
I have a 4 outlet NTL box attached outside to the facia board under my gutter, only every 2nd house has this box, 1 outlet went to my indoor box and then to my TV and the other ran back to my neighbours house feeding his indoorTV outlet,.... so we both had our own dedicated outlet on this 4 outlet outdoor box.
I got NTL broadband awhile back and the installer said it would be better/more reliable if I let him run a separate feed from the outdoor box to my cable modem and not to split the existing indoor TV connection to feed the modem,
he added that this would involve a small extra monthly payment for the 2nd connection.

I live in a single story house and can see the outdoor box quite clearly and guess what the installer actually done.
He has put a splitter on the cable which was going to my indoor TV box and so this one outlet is now feeding both me and my neighbour,...the outlet which was feeding my neighbour is now feeding my cable modem !!.....this still leaves only 2 of the 4 outlets on the outdoor box in use, does anyone think
Im being ripped off with this ?????

I dont think you being ripped off, but i do think the installer should of used one of the other ports on the tap. He probably didnt have the unlocking tool for the tap

    To put it simply, yes.

Wow, that’s really unprofessional. Your neighbour is entitled to have 2 of those legs off that tap and you have the other two.

So firstly you and your neighbour shouldn't be sharing a splitter from one leg for TV. Technically you and your neighbour's TV signal should be worse as a splitter gives a higher loss than if it was connected directly to the leg (however you might not even notice it when watching TV, but that’s not the point. Your entitled to the highest quality signal they can provide).

But, back to the broadband. If it takes a second feed to get you a proper or decent broadband connection, then you are entitle to use your 2nd leg to achieve that. Remember your paying for it.

It sounds like the engineer is being a bit lazy (which is a very common problem) and not bothering to run a second cable.

So if you want it done properly, give NTL a ring, give them hell and tell your neighbour too and I guarantee you that it will be done properly.

I phoned ntl recently and asked specifically about the extra point which is installed for broadband. I asked "I know that the extra point is installed for free, but do I have to pay rental on that extra point?" The rep put me on hold and then came back replying: "No, you just pay the basic broadband rental per month."

It's terrible to see all this going on. At the end of the day these are all irish people working with jobs. If they keep it up it will be no jobs. Chorus is the very same, too many chief's and not enough indians, and it's all going down down. I know i work for Sky and all, but still i would like to see the likes of chorus doing well seen as its an irish company and irish people working for them. Even do i despise them. I did work for them too

Quite correct,.....I just phoned NTL, my call was answered quickly and I explained about being billed for an extra point since I had BB installed, they apologised and have rectified the matter, I will be credited the over charging on my next bill,.....all of the above took 3~4mins,...wow :D
