I have noticed a few items for sale on ebay that are a bit odd. There are quite a few cd/dvd comic collections. They are moste definitly pirate but there appears to be different qualities. Has anybody bought them? What are they like? Would you bother buying them?

I've seen a few pirate comics around the place; generally they're manually scanned images grouped in zip or rar files that can be viewed using the Comic Book Reader. Quality is, to be honest, not great - it's ok for reading on your computer but a very poor substitute to actually reading the comic (they tend not to scan spreads as one complete image, which is annoying). I'd avoid them on principle - I dislike the idea of giving money to someone for a pirate copy of something; if it's worth buying I'd rather support the original creator where possible.

Boards doesn't encourage or condone pirate material, or any illegal material for that matter.

The pro's and cons discussions of such things are OK, but actually discussion the purchase or download of such items is not. Please try to remember that when replying, because I do not want to have to edit/delete posts or ban people from this forum because of it.

I agree with your principles on piracy. I was just wondering what they were like. There must be a way to get the government to take the tax off comics to maybe stimulate the market here. It's cheaper to buy the TPB on line. I want to support the Irish shops but cost is a factor.

Taking into account ][cemans comments, there is a legal collection of spider man comics on CD that spans back a couple of decades, its available on amazon, a quick google search will pull it up for you.
    cheers

Marvel.com actually did a run of free comics you could download using their own player. I remember the wolverine series ORIGIN was one of the samples you could get, and was quite good.

I downloaded in total maybe 50-60 different comics over time. I don't know if they're still doing it, but that was a great idea imo. It let people sample the comic and buy it if they thought it was any good.

You've got to remember that with most comic book readers, they're collectors as well and buy the books for collection purposes, not just to read them.
