    Howdy,

I've an interview tomorrow. It's the first interview I will have with this company. Anyways, I asked what sort of interview will it be (E.g technical exams?)

I got a reply back saying what sort of interview it was going to be and then the following
Dress code is smart casual, so
don't plan to spend all day in a suit and tie in a hot train carriage
    :-).

Generally I'd wear a suit to a interview even if it said smart casual, anyone else I've seen at them usually has a suit as well. But the guy put a smiley in the e-mail. So it seems rather informal to me at least. As its a industrial placement not everyone has a suit so usually that is the dress code as not to pressure people into buying a new suit.

So would it make sense to go wearing smart casual now that he's said that to me? I know the person who sent the e-mail + 1 other will be intervewing me.

Also what exactly is smart casual? :)

There was a thread on this in Afterhours a few weeks ago... <<Linky>>
Although this was in the context of education and not work, but still worth a read.
My own advice would be to go in a suit anyway... always better to overdress for an interview than underdress.

    wear a suit.

if you want to go smart casual, then a pair of chinos or slacks and a nice plain cotton shirt. nice polished shoes.
wear a tie if you feel inclined. no big neck or wrist chains. use common sense :)

Like I said usually I'd just wear a suit as smart casual would be listed as the dress code. But the guy went out of the way to say don't bother wearing one and even put a smiley heh :)

Probably just wear a suit minus the tite and open button or something. Can always keep a tie in my pocket incase someone else is dressed up :D

    I'd go with the suit.

id go suit to the interview tone it down to shirt /polo shirt & neat jeans/cords for everyday use if you get the job.
Suit jacket & jeans with a casual shirt can look fine for an interview but you gotta be careful - you dont want to look like jeremy clarkson.

    go for the suit

Always dress one step up from what the standard dress code is for that job.

Smart Casual could be the suit without the tie and a nice shirt.

Yeah no shirt would be cool. I could try getting the job with my sexy body as opposed to other merits :D
