    Hi.
I'm looking for some cheap computer store located in Dublin.
I'm going to buy whole computer to be honest, but I don't like built PC's - and I have some knowledge on how-to-build the computer ;-)
I'm going to Dublin on saturday - so if anyone has a good addresses, I'll be greatfull.
Websites would be great addition ;-)

http://www.marxcomputers.ie/ is one that i have recently come accross and is located in Fairview D3. I presume that you have already checked out the sticky which lists most other sites.

    Yeah, check the sticky please.

I have used marx before and found them to be excellent. hitide.ie is also good. elara.ie too. These are all relatively cheap places that you can pick stuff up from (in person).

Suggest not going to pc world or haaaaaaaaaaaavey normans. Stuff there tends to be overpriced.

What will you be using the PC for? It's hard to get high end hardware off the shelf in Dublin sometimes.

There's another little job for you Khannie - that sticky could use cleaning up as well - a la the free software one ;)

Personally I've used Komplett and HiTide. You'd be better off buying from websites as shops in Dublin are over-priced. You can collect from HiTide and Elara but Komplett only deliver.

yeah, I've seen sticky topic ;-)
PC will be used to design and render in 3D Max - so 64 bit AMD is a must :D
for now I don't care about graphic or sound card - for games I have already Playstation and I found it VERY fun :)

my minimum specification? AMD 64 3000+, 1024 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, DVD+/-RW

    I'll check those sites
    thanks a lot

If you're doing graphics rendering won't you need a decent gfx card?

** Prepares to be Shot **

If your looking for components, seriously, don't rule out *ahem* PC World. They have pcworldcomponentcentre.co.uk (or something like that) in UK and its filtering through their stores now. Components anyway. For example, Hiper black label type r PSU - €75, 3.4GHZ P4 - €320, Abit Duramax AA8XE - €139 etc etc. Their components actually aren't as stupidly priced as some of their 'built' PCs. Only thing is you have to ask what they have processor wise. And the hard drives are a rip off.

For 3DSMAX, you'll want a video card that can support 2 monitors, and also have at least 128MB on it. Also, you'll want one of the mid to high range.
Also, make sure the main monitor is 21", as you'll be wanting to run 3DSMAX @ a high resolution (1024*768 is not very good, imho, in 3DSMAX). The secondry monitor can be a 17", as you'll only really need it to have the 3D image showing.

GFX card isn't a MUST for DESIGNING
as the syco wrote, there would be better GFX card supporting two monitors, than the strongest-most-powerfull bla bla bla
at home I had GF4 4200 @ Quadro 4 via SoftQuadro and it worked great in viewports - but rendering depends only on processor

generally - the more RAM yoou have, the better MAX works :)
    even with integrated graphics ;)

Harvey Normans is slightly less overpriced than PC World!

read my post above. PC World component prices compare quite well to the 'komplett' price.

RE PSU: Stick with well know brands like antec, be-quiet, ocz (there's more i cant remember names of, sticky thread) etc.
Psu's like qtec are not so good at all, even for the pc.
EDIT: i suppose i should also answer your original question :D
It-direct has a shop on parliament street if its any good to you, www.itdirect.ie i think dont know what their prices are like.
I'd recomend buying on the net of some of the above mentioned shops.
www.shop4memory.ie is good for ram (their english site has more stuff, pcoverclock or something, both based in ireland) and good customer support to.
Used komplett a few times, good suport to

Peats in Parnell St is not expensive if you are looking for "emergency" parts. :D

or maplin, between parnell and henry (about 50 yards from peats) is fairly good, check for specials/OEM stuff.

Jaguar computers near the Red Cow usually have good prices.

Theres no store in Dublin thats going to be as cheap as the web or Komplett. Maplins, Peats and PC World are unbeliveably over priced.

3D MAX is designed for 1280x1024 and higher. Lower than that and you have to scroll to see the end end of the tool bars.

    Depends what your getting.

You order a 3.4 Pentium 4 from komplett, i'll buy one in PC World and we'll compare receipts. Also take into account i'll have it there and then, and if theres anything faulty about it, i wont have to wait weeks for it to be replaced.

PC World are overpriced when it comes to Hard Drives & GFX Cards.

Komplett is overpriced compared to overclockers with some products too (noticeably 6800GT's).

They're all overpriced up against shop4memory.com when it comes to certain RAM brands.

    ..

Thats true. I haven't prices that CPU but for hard disks, and video cards, PC world has crazy prices. I used to shop in OcUK till I had huge problems returning something, and their couriers. never again.

speaking about PSU: in my opinion - it's THE MOST important thing in PC.
and this tells you folks a man, who burnt his Barton Mobile 2500+ becouse of cheap PSU

How did a cheap PSU burn your CPU? Did you drop it in it or something?

I'm not English, so I'm not sure if you'll understand, what I mean.
voltage drop - and voltage overhigh just after that
    Barton M2500+ started smelling like a ****

I've just never heard of that happening. Thats usually a result of a problem with the AC supply.

IT Direct on Capel street have some pretty good prices and equipment. I'd recommend Peats as well.
