"Well boys and girls, I can 'exclusively' reveal to this thread that the channel numbers will be 267 (RTE1), 268(RTE2) and 269(TG4).

Before you all wet yourselves asking me for sources , here you go.

Dunno who their sources are though, but you'd assume they got it from somewhere legit."

    I just got this:

RTÉ & TG4 Sky Digital-Bound in Northern Ireland

From Monday next, 18 April, RTÉ One, RTÉ Two and TG4 will be available to Sky digital customers in Northern Ireland for the first time. All three channels will be on air by 11am. TG4 will begin with a special edition of 'Cúla'. The channels will occupy positions 267 (RTÉ One); 268 (RTÉ Two) and 269 (TG4) on the electronic programming guide (EPG).

Noel Curran, Managing Director, RTÉ Television, said, "We have always believed that RTÉ services should be available to as wide an audience as possible on all platforms and today is another step towards achieving that goal. We are delighted that RTÉ television is now available on a digital platform on an all-Ireland basis."

TG4 Ceannasaí, Pól Ó Gallchóir, said that the extension of the Irish language channel to Sky's Northern Ireland customers was a very welcome development for the thriving Irish language community there. "Since coming on-air in 1996, we have been inundated with requests from the North about how people could access our service," he said. Mr Ó Gallchóir added that this had been a high priority for the channel, particularly given the specific commitments in this regard contained in the Good Friday Agreement, the recent establishment of an Irish language television production fund in Northern Ireland and the current local test transmissions of TG4 from Divis Mountain.

Mark Deering, Director of Sky Ireland, said "We are delighted to welcome RTÉ One, RTÉ Two and TG4 to the Sky digital platform in Northern Ireland. The availability of these channels will further strengthen Sky's digital offering in Northern Ireland."

RTÉ Television and TG4 have been available on the Sky Digital platform in the Republic of Ireland for the past 3 years.

    Issued: Wednesday 13th April, 2005

Do I take it that NI Sky customers have different cards to regular UK ones, so that only they will pick up the RTE channels? Is it tied in to the billing address postcode or something?

So is this a Sky platform solution for people in the Republic (like me) who want UK and Irish terrestrial channels? Currently I choose NTL for that reason. But if I was to use a mate's billing address in the North, I could get a UK(NI) Sky subscription that includes the Irish channels (minus TV3 anyway)?

Will a NI FTA card do it, or is it tied in with one of the subscription packages?

It looks like subscription only, especially when Sky are involved like they are. And also, why would RTÉ be FTV up North and subscription down here?

And, yes, it would also be tied to postcode, there are no difference in any card Sky supply, anywhere. (Not hard up North, as they are all BTxx xxx)

Be very interesting to see if any real progs are blocked out on RTÉ on a Norn Iron card. Could be very worth while getting one for my Sky+ box. Lack of ITV, Ch4 not a huge prob as I have a FTV card for a regular box, but lack of recording is a right pain.

How come they don't take up 105, 106 and 107 like the BBC AND UTV do in the rest of the country?

I'd say Channel 5, Sky One and Sky Mix would have a say...

I like the RTE Guys comment:

In a statement released yesterday, Noel Curran, Managing Director, RTÉ Television, said: ".... We are now, along with TG4, the first broadcasters to be available on Sky digital on an all-island basis."

Apart from BBC1 NI/ BBC2 NI - oh and all the other channels? Couldn't he have thought of something more profound????

Next - WHEN WILL THEY START SOMETHING FOR THE UK!?!? Its been 3 years since we said ta ta to tara!

I suppose they ment the frist national stations to be Ireland. Rather then an opt out for Britain.
I'd say Channel 5, Sky One and Sky Mix would have a say...

Where do BBC 3, 4, news etc lie on the Sky EPG?

Will The Den be a seprate channel up there?

    115, 116 & 507 respectively.

To knock out some other placements, BBC Parliament is on 508, CBBC is on 616 and CBeebies is on 617. And ITV2 is on 118 with ITV3 of course ("of course" meaning that we get it) on 119.

There's a gap from 167 to 172 that they could use some of, especially given that our northern brethren don't get BBC1&2 on 169 and 170.

So it's after the Poker channel for RTE. Makes a little more sense than having UKTV G2 on 111 and UKTV G2+1 on 256 though.

Don't get too hung-up on the EPG allocations.....remember they are all changing in the Autumn so 267,268,& 269 could well be temporary.
