I was thinking of going to Cuba for two weeks in November- staying in Havanna for a few days and moving on to a resort. Has anyone done this already? I've heard that resorts over there can be a bit hit and miss

Spent 2 weeks in Cuba about 12 years ago, stayed in Varadero (SP), regretted not getting chance to see Havana apart from the Airport, weather was great, people were really friendly, wasn't great choice of good restaurants or bars, beaches and see were great and clean. Place was full of hookers though, don't know if it's still the same now.

5 yrs ago I stayed in Havana for about 3 days and then went for a day trip to Varadero. Coming from Jamaica Varadero was absolute heaven. No big tall ugly hotels , no hassle on the beach. There are regular modern 'tourist buses' going from havana to varadero. I think they stop at the hotels.

Havana was very nice. When you get to the airport they will ask u if u have already booked a hotel. Just get a name of a hotel off the internet and tell them that u have booking there. 3 days was more than enough tho to go to the cigar factories etc. Also the exact replica of the Capitol hill(i think) was really impressive

Also change your US dollars/euro into the local currency (pesos i think) as paying in the local money is much cheaper.

oh. My father found this restaurant on the internet and weaved us down some dark alleyways(u always felt safe, guards at nearly every street corner). It was up some old, derelict apartment block and when we got there they slammed the door in our faces because we didnt have a booking. We then booked for the next night and had the most tasty food you can imagine! :D
