Ok, here is another thread lol. If I decide not to do the langauge course I was thinking maybe doing a TEFL abroad.

I have no clue how to go about it. Can anyone advise me on what is the best way to a doing a sucessful TEFL abroad. How do I go about applying etc.?

you'll need to do a weekend course somewhere
check the internet for places that run these courses
i know that they are run every so often around limerick as they are advertised in UL
my sister did one and was teaching in south korea for over a year!!

edit -> look here actually: http://www.teflcourses.com/viewPages.php?pageid=6832

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

I have no degree only a FETAC cert. Would that hold me back? I notice a lot of the adverts requesting teachers abroad seem to only want people who hold degrees :(

checkout eslcafe.com - tons of information there.
You're probably better going for a 2 week course, especially if you've no degree behind you. Think it should be about 120 hours and try make sure it includes at least some teaching practice as this will make the qualification more respected.

If you go abroad to do it I'd be inclined not to worry too much about going somewhere attractive and for the holiday (unless you want to stay on and work after the initial course I guess) because it's supposed to be fairly tough and won't leave much time for sightseeing.

Different countries will have different requirements when recruiting - popular places like Greece can demand more and places already with excellent standards of English like Germany or Holland can expect more - other countries will be the opposite.

My advice is check the link on the top - it'll get you in touch with a lot of info and also a lot of people who have more advice then myself :)
