I think youd probably get a nice budget yahama for that, possibly a second hand takamine. Check the buy and sell.

Yamaha F310. You can pick them up for nice prices and they actually sound good. I'd avoid Takamine, at least in the lower price brackets, if I were you. I don't know if Simon and Patrick make budget models but if they do, I can't recommend them strongly enough. Serious craftsmanship for the price. I have one. :)

I'd suggest getting a good second hand Pacifica. Had mine nearly 3 years(if not more) and haven't need to replace it. Might change the pickups, though.

Is the quality of the guitar important when starting off? Im onlt starting to learn myself too as ive mentioned in other threads. Got my guitar as an xmas pressie. The make is SX me thinks. Any good?? I bet my mam got ripped off when she bought it! Bless her! lol. She said it was 140 ish. That good? Bad? Ok?

BrokenArrows, u gonna take lessons or teach yourself?

What kind of takamine can you get for €200? I've had nothing but good experiences with my takamine, although its an expensive one. I started on an F310, as did one of my mates, and another has an F340 which is one model up. They serve well as a beginners guitar. Stay away from SX and waltons in general.

I plan on teaching my self. No point in paying someone to teach you. Learning yourself is probably the quickest way to get going id say.

    Ok thanks for the advice

you'll eventually need to get lessons to learn PROPERLY, anyone can learn some chords, a teacher will tell you what a chord is etc etc

It's best to have someone to point you in the right direction or you'll get stuck in a rut

well no offence, but if you can't play yourself, you can't really comment on someone elses ability, he may SOUND good, but if he hasnt had lessons then he may be lacking in some other areas.

there was an ibanez acoustic (sunburst) on sale in musician inc. a few weeks a go . if its still there its great value for 220. i was gonna buy it but i decided to wait and get a 400 euro yamaha fg433s. if you are positive that your going to keep playing it may be better to wait and spend a bit more money and you wont have to get a better one in a few years.

You could try: http://www.guitar-warehouse.com/product_results.asp?CategoryID=9&Department=Acoustic Guitars&Category=Electro Acoustic Guitars

I bought a rodeo electro acoustic a few months ago as a backup acoustic guitar, and was really impressed with it, despite the low price.
