Im just back from Lanzarote with my gf and had such a good time, unbelievable island. I do plan to go back. I think Ive caught the travel bug and we are planning to go on another holiday towards the end of August.

Can someone recommend a sunny destination that is garaunteed to please? I know opinions differ but I havent heard one thing bad about Lanzarote from people who have been there.

We are in our early 20's. Shopping, food and beer must be cheap, nice weather (nothing above 30 degrees), nice hotel with pool etc. I know this is everybodys ideal holiday but Im sure somebody has been on a holiday that delivered all of the above.

    Opinions please? :)

Dubrobvnik, Croatia is great! Was there for 2 weeks during summer.(btw I'm 20). Weather was 24-28C. Good pubs. Drink is a small bit cheaper than here, but food is alot cheaper.
It's a very trendy town. The only thing is that the beaches are gravely and it's hard to find a decent sized sandy beach. Island hopping is a good way to find some.

Montenegro, I hear is really nice and is probably cheaper, and someone I know enjoyed a black sea resort in Romania.

I am definitely going back to Lanzarote. Not this year. Im just back from there on April 10th last. Im just looking for a holiday for a young couple at the end of August where things are cheap, good weather, shopping, food etc etc etc. I know everyone has different opinions and may disagree but sureley there are places where its very difficult to find a fault with (i.e. in my case, Lanzarote!) :D

    Zakynthos, Greek Island, great place.

Zakynthos is great, especially for one week. Highly recommend it, beautiful for swimming, diving etc...and of course Smugglers Cove.
Took a trip to Olympia, the original Olympic Games site, which is on the mainland but only a short ferry and road trip away.

Be sure not to get stationed in Lagunas though, that's where our Red, White and Blue neighbours like to congregate with their 'ale'.

Crete is amazing, worked there for 2 summers & have been back on several hols - it's a huge island so there is loads to see, lots of history.
most irish package deals send you to stalis, which is grand - very much a resort strip but full of nice restaurants bars etc & away from the madness of hersonnisus & malia. get stationed there & rent a car, travel the island and experience real crete - i recommend paleochoro in the south west & chania in the west...just fab

have to say i spent a week in turkey in 2003 near Gumbet and hated it! the weather was far too hot (50degrees two of the days) and the beach was horrible. the drivers are such maniacs that you couldn't even think about hiring a car to explore places yourself. bitez was a bit nicer. the biggest let down was the fact that IT IS NOT THAT CHEAP anymore. drink is expensive enough unless you will drink local beer which i wasn't ,mad on. but i've heard kusadasi is much nicer.

loved zakynthos too. we stayed outside laganas and i'd have to agree it wasnt the nicest part but were about 1km outside so it was ok. the scenery is fantastic, it's well worth hiring a car to explore and the smugglers cove is amazing. the beaches are lovely and its really cheap. we did the boat trip around the island too which was fab.

Been to Lanzarote three times and love it there. If you can get it, the Fariones Aparthotel is about the best place you can stay. Seemingly its very difficult to get though and you need to book well in advance.

Fuerteventura is another great lesser known Canary Island. Been there twice and actually now considering a move over there altogether, putting house up for sale and taking the plunge! I actually prefer Fuerteventura to Lanzarote but depends on what you want. A lot more shops and nightlife in Lanz and Fuert is very laid back.

Stayed here Trix. Beautiful place. Theres a Spar shop right outside the main entrance. Bought our drink and food for appartments there (very cheap).

One thing I'd recommend doing is buy a huge bottle of Sangria (3 euro), an orange and lemon. Slice fruit thinly and mix Sangria in big bowl with fruit and leave in the fridge for the day. Have ice made and slap that into the bowl when u are ready to drink it in the evening. We sat out on the balcony in the evenings, drank Sangria and watched the world go by and the sun set. :D I would stay there again no problem. ;)

It looks like we will take off to the Algarve at the start of August. Supposed to fly to Turkey but we scrapped that idea. Has anyone got any feedback from the Algarve? We were going to stay in Praia da Rocha.

During the end of August New York is perfectly sunny if not a little hot and as for shopping your in consumer heaven, book now and you'll get cheap air fares, i booked Shannon to New York in September for EUR450, The only thing about lanzarote is it is full of retired older people and that can put some people off, not me its lovely i was there in 03 everything is for pennies also.

    Regards netwhizkid

I didnt think it was full of retired old people tbh. Why would that put anyone off anyway? Lanzarote is a1, cant fault it.

Praia del Rocha wouldn't be my cup of tea.

'Ballymun in the Sun' type holiday.
