Enjoy. Remeber, what happens in Vegas stays in vegas. I think most casinos limit tables start at 3/6 and from what I hear the standard is so bad even the 20/40 tables are like the online .25/.50. games.

I got back from Vegas a few weeks ago. We didn't really do much in terms of eating out, amusement parks etc so I wouldn't be much help on that front.

We were staying in the Plaza in the Downtown area of the city. Their NL games usually began to fill at 3pm and would generally be busy until around 9-11am the next morning. The players were of varying quality but it was relatively easy to make a profit in general. They also provided 2/4 and 3/6 limit, aswell as some stud games but I didn't play any of those games.

Binion's was probably the most difficult poker room, I'd avoid playing there because most of the players would be poker players by profession, though I did see an incredibly drunk redneck at the table beside me lose about $2k in the space of an hour through bluffing into 4 flush straight boards with underpairs etc.

The only other place I played poker was the Luxor. The players were terrible, great at talking a good game but idiotic in their play. The blind structure was 1-1-2 which made for a lot more preflop limping than usual, preflop raises were greeted with astonishment. In general, the dealers were of a very poor standard. An impressive building but not a casino I'd have any interest in going to again.

Bally's got rave reviews from my friends who played there for a couple of overnight sessions. The players are generally very loose etc. so that would be a good place to play.

Hope that limited information is of some help...

Go down to Binions Horseshoe in down town Vegas. They hold regular games at 2.00 and 8.00 of NL texas for about $50 buy in. Good craic and helps to pass the afternoon before the serious action starts

I have read that the Bellagio have the best comps, tittiest waitresses and a good/soft 2/5NL game.

Where did you book the package..??If I may ask

Whilst drunk in Vegas I learned one thing. Don't believe that a slot machine is due to pay out just because you have put over $300 into in. If you find yourself repeating the words "this machine is about to burst", go straight to bed.

    Enjoy Mark, you jammy b*&tard.
    Ps. Unlucky with clan royal

forgetting poker (yes i actually just said that!), you have to get to the grand canyon. you can hire a hummer (tee hee.) and a tour guide which will bring you to the non-touristy side of it where you can go and eat with indians. its amazing.

i'm over myself in the last week in May,
    best of luck!

Manderlay bay and luxor are connected, two series hotels with the manderlay more up-market, having said that I liked the Luxor and enjoyed the pokerroom mainly 2/4 limit. They also have €100 freezeouts a couple times a week. It's very friendly with many players attending conferences etc and just out to enjoy themselves, there is a lot of loose money about, however you will most certainly spot a least one shark trying to blend in with the crowd. Register straight away with the pokerroom manager, tell him you intend to play so many hours and He will sign you in and comp you meals/tickets depending on your time spent there, all drinks are free, even for your spectator friends. Manderlay have tournaments starting @10.00am, Luxor @ noon , Manderlay @ 18.00 and back to the Luxor for 20.30 for a $25 freezeout.
Where else would you be going?
Sahara has a excellent tournament on a wednesday night $40 with 1 re-buy or top-up, well over 100 players in this.(hotel not that nice)
Things you must do are 1) Blue man group tickets are $100 and worth every cent, do not come back from vegas without seeing this show.2)Also in the Luxor a Imax 3d cinema where you are literally strapped into your seat(sound system is being boosted as the best in the world)
Hope this helps, cardplayer.com has up to date list of all tournaments/cash games in Vegas.
    Fintan.

Dont walk around during the day anyway! I was there during the end of june and probaly walked about 100m at about 2 o clock and almost passed out with the heat. Great place but 3 days was enough for me. We stayed in the Golden Nugget on the old strip. Four Queens is good for some Roulette

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,295 ✭✭✭ionapaul

Thought the Blue Man group was very over-rated, myself. I was happier paying $125 to see Seigfriend und Roy, they rocked (in a seriously camp way) and it is a cool memory to have, seeing the legends that they are.

Great free show every hour in the mall in Alladin, acrobats and street entertainers better than any buskers, anywhere. But the very very VERY best free show is Big Elvis, who plays in a few casinos during the week. That small one (forget the name) on the opposite corner from the Bellagio, so directly across from Ballys and down from Harrahs - aha, I remember, the Barbary Coast. Anyway, picture Elvis after eating 1000 cheese burgers, Big Elvis is 500 lbs of goodness. Voice like an angel. He even had other Elvisii in the audience, trying to learn a thing or two from the big man!

If you are a single man, bring some nice clothes and hit the fancy bars / clubs in the nicer casinos - Light in the Bellagio is good, as is Rum Jungle in the Mandalay Bay. I've seen many celebrities in both. The women in Vegas are, by far, the best looking in the world. Mainly the hot hot hot SoCal girls that drive over from LA and San Diego for the weekends.

    I love Vegas.

The nl game in Ballys is the best I played in, it attracts a few good players but mostly tournament players who think AK is good enough to call your stack off preflop. The nl game in the bellagio has a very odd structure, Id avoid it.

The gambling bookshop in vegas is excellent, I went out after a all night session in Ballys and spent my profit for the night on books.

it'll pay for the first night :D

thanks for the tips guys, very welcome keep em coming :)

    sahara has a good1 2

If you're comfortable riding a big motorbike, then book a Harley from www.eaglerider.com and go out into the desert. It's awesome, especially if you can get out a distance and go to the Hoover Dam or Zion National Park. Even Red Rock is worth a ride around.

For the best looking waitresses, I'd suggest Rio. It's off the strip, but they really make an effort. The champagne brunch is worth a go as well, but there are usually quite big lines for it. There's a club on the top floor that has good cocktails, fantastic views of the strip, and model standard waitresses.

For eating, the Steakhouse in Binions is really good, but is a smart place, so will require shirt and trousers rather than jeans and a t-shirt. The best steak I've ever had, but not particulary cheap when you can get ropeys steaks for five dollars on any corner in LV. If you want a memorable last meal, try the Top of the World in the Stratosphere. It's one of them revolving restaurants, and is 100 floors up; your ears pop when you go up in the lift! Again it's smart so no jeans/trainers, but if you're sensible you'll check most places' dress policies before you go anyway.

Try the Palomino Club for a strip joint. It's the only fully nude place that's allowed to serve alcohol. The strippers are a variable bunch, but generally nice enough. Remember to bring many many one dollar bills with you if you do go to any strip club, as they will be expected about every two minutes if you sit next to the stage.

There's an active newsgroup on Google that I found invaluable before I went on my first trip.

I did that! You need to bring id (passport). We spent an hour blasting away in the gun range. Best hangover cure ever!

    ok the report so

this is without a doubt the coolest place i've ever been and i was actually sad to leave the place after 10 days - its awesome
basically everyone run now, get there as soon as you can

needless to say i came back with all the cash gone but i got my moneys worth, up on the poker but a combination of fast women, slow horses, blackjack and megabucks....oh, there was some drink taken as well put paid to that

    poker first

the Bellagio was hosting the WPT when i was there so went in for a look around met Barney Boatman had a chat, Joe Beevers was the only one of the Hendon Mob left and the tourney was down to 2 tables when i left, cool to see the likes of Phil Ivey and Chris Ferguson in the flesh, its dull enough watching just when theres an all-in is there a bit of exciement, however better was to come - went to the canyon for a few days and came back to find that there was a dedicated card room finished and headed in for some 4 - 8 limit - sat down beside the VIP room at the back and inside is Johnny Chan, John Juanda, Barry Greenstein, Celine Dions hubby (probably sneaks out when she's on stage) playing 2k 4k - so Chan starts looking over at me to check out my moves - nah he's one grumpy looking bugger though

then toby maguire comes in a sits on the steps behind me, doesnt get a game though, either he wanted oo high stakes or no-one wanted to play with him, i wasnt giving up my seat either!!! gus hansen and jennifer harmon were out on the main floor too - not bad celeb spotting for a friday night

of all the poker rooms this was by far the nicest with adjustable chairs with backs and cushions, waitress service - all i can say is cheerleader outfits
dealers were good xcept for on lady who just looked scary, you'll know if you ever see her

i ended up here 3 nights the game were friendly and soft and the talent in the bars after was unreal

The Mirage was hectic, great fun too, just so busy it was ages getting drinks to the table, this was more of a busy busy poker room top class though

played the tourneys in Binions because everytime i went up there was very little cash games going on and they looked pretty tight, the tourneys were 70 + 40 rebuy you were lucky to see 2 hands per blind and ante's were intrduced at the 4th, best result here was a second last table, but 120 entries on average here means the prize money is good if you do get well placed - pick up a copy of poker stars and there seems to be at least one tourney somewhere every hour in vegas and you can pick and choose your limit

MGM has a new poker room - very cool looking, i had a great time there but some of the other players complained about background noise from the disco bar and studio 54 at night, didnt bother me, but each to their own, like i said very cool and when you are folding hands and waiting around the eye candy more than relieves the boredom

didnt like the luxor games were too tight when i got there, lots of the players knew the dealers so definite shark country, the tourneys here are very popular though i was always too late, they cap the reg's

and because i stayed there and ended up playing there the Tropicana has the worst card room but the best, absolutely everyone hammered, home game atmosphere going on, this was just pure poker abuse, loads of women playing, guys who think they can play and its either 1 - 3 limit or 1 - 2 NL, the dealers were very cool and if you just want to go and shout and drink and sing and get the worst bad beats ever this is the game, it was a real worst hand wins everytime gaem and everyone calls with nothing and hits everything

    vegas = poker heaven

went to the canyon, hired a '05 4 litre V6 mustang and drove down, $150 for 3 days rental, so sad to see the car go, some animal, the views are spectacular, just sorry i didn't arrange to hike down and back, however when i was there it snowed and rained and when it was fine it was freezing, but a definite place to see

went out on a yacht on lake mead and saw that, pretty relaxing with a load of beers watching the sun go down there

every sort of food on offer out there, the best meal i had was in delmonicos steakhouse, i'd recommend it pretty pricey but amazing grub and you should book well in advance before you go

best bars - hard rock casino (heavy metal waitresses mmmmmmm), bellagio beside the poker room, MGM beside the poker room too, the irish bar in new york new york is OK too, we all know the beer in the states is rubbish but the ladies are awesome

    Coyote Ugly was pants

went to the Wynn the night it opened, very impressive, was absolutely jammers though didnt see the poker room and heard mixed reviews about its size, apparently too small, but they do comp you free meals for 6 or 8 hours play!! all the other casinos go for titty waitresses, the Wynn went for supermodels!! absolute honeys

suppose its a good sign i cant give you any advice on the strip bars, didnt need to check em out, sorry, what happens in vegas stays in vegas and all that i suppose

that was my vegas experience and as soon as i can get the cash together again i'm going back, in the meantime if anyone is even considering it just do it you really wont be disappointed, run now

    marko

If you do nothing else (bar play poker) go to the Blue Man Group show. Expensive enough ticket ($100) but it will, like totally, blow your 'em, mind, dude!
Seriously though, this show is beyond spectacular...

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,299 ✭✭✭✭MadsL

Oh, and rent the Mustang!! Especially a red convertible - awesome driving down the strip at night, and more fun than should be legal in the desert...Route 66 isn't far away..and the longest and oldest section Needles to Seligman is everything you think it should be.

Surely one must get out of ones face and visit Circus Circus? In honour of the late HST at least.

Iv read that Club Paradise is the most popular and most frequented gentleman's club in vegas although I'd say that everything there is above board (take that as a good or bad thing)

Ideally when one goes to vegas the only way in my opinion to do it is to bring as much cash as possible as let it rip. Drink as much as possible, play as much cards as possible and **** as many busty vegas blonds as is manly possible. Oh and also visit a show...
