Cowl cowl cowl!!! Check that before anything.

Bottoms of doors; which would be evident by bubbling paint. Floorpans, bottoms of rear fenders, and the front fenders behind the wheels. Also, avoid vinyl top cars like the plague. Its usually just rust underneath as Ford never prepared the surface below the vinyl so its a rust hot spot.

get a good garage man to look at the car before u buy, theres hundreds of things could b wrong, that only the trained eye will spot ;) history of the car,and reciepts are a good sign.do a google search, theres plenty of sites on ponys

I actually bought a 68 fastback a year and a half ago. The cowl is the main problem area and very hard to establish if its rusted because its more or less hidden. Check the floors, wheel arches, the usual. With regards to reciepts. Thats just unrealistic. These cars were never sold in Europe (except for a brief stint in 1967) so chances of reciepts making it across the ocean are slim and they weren't expensive supercars so who the hell was going to keep a record of thier daily driver anyway? Its like expecting a full service history for a 1978 Ford Cpari, your not going to get one.

The car is simple and basic. Just make sure the shell is sound. EVERYTHING else about these cars is cheap to fix or replace. A whole new suspension kit costs $800, cheap cheap classic to run. Just dont sell yourself short by buying a cheap one thats in poor condition. Its a false economy.

Here is a 1964 Mustang - nice but pricey - what's so special about the 1964 model anyway
Red is the only colour to go for in a Mustang IMO. They looks terrible in white or that yucky light metallic blue colour :)

I saw a programme about this crowd on one of the obscure sky channels last weekend:
    http://www.uniqueperformance.com/

They recreate the tricked out Shelby Mustang from the remake of 'Gone in Sixty Seconds'. The idea might sound a bit naff, but the cars are built around pretty dead pre-'68 mustang bodies. They look good except for the rear tail-lights, which are lifted from a thunderbird or something. They also do a replica GT350 SR (again on original 60's bodies) with some sort of authorisation from Shelby himself.

Hey, I know it's been a while since anyone posted on this thread but I just saw on the net that uniqueperformance are having a bankruptcy auction and for anyone who was interested, there are some good mustang parts and shells to be got at a very good price ...especially when ya account for the current exchange rate. The auction is online and is running til the 27th of March. The address for the auction is http://www.maxanet.com/cgi-bin/mndetails.cgi?rosen/ . I'm not in a position to buy one of these but I really hope someone here can profit from the info. Good luck!
