Many of us will remember the epic championship tie between Dublin and Meath back in 1991 that lasted for 4 games in total, but does anyone here know the exact dates that the four games were played on? I need to find this info but oddly enough I can't seem find it thru google or from gaa.ie.

    Any info/help gratefully recieved.

I was at all 4 matches! Dublin should have beaten them on each day, but we didn't! Oh well, it is all history now!

I was there as well. My memory is that Dublin were the better team in each of the first 3 games, and Meath varied between lucky and very lucky to get a draw. Extra-time in the 2nd and 3rd games were the reverse though, with Dublin lucky to come away on equal terms on both occassions.

But then 4th game, we killed them. Outplayed them all over the pitch and were coasting to a 6 point victory with only minutes remaining ........ then we go and concede 2-1 :(:(:(:(:(:(

In the next round they drew again, this time with Wicklow. Had Wicklow won, a lot of people would have said Meath were tired after their previous 4 games. However, Wicklow did have a good team and they should have won the first day. Meath played 10 championship matches that year, but at least they lost the final! :D

That's the shame about the Provinces system. Meath, Dublin, Leinster counties have to play at least six games to call themselves Champions. Kerry need only turn up at Semple twice and Croker once and all of a sudden it's another feather in their hat.

    KEVIN FOLEY IS GOD!!!!!!!!!

Me again! I'm trying to find the date of yet another Dublin-Meath match from the early 1990s.

What I remember is that it was at Croke Park, that it was a National League game and that the final result was a draw (possibly 0-11 to 0-11?). It was definetly sometime between Sept 1990 and June 1993. I even remember the attendance was quoted at around 16,000. Also I reckon the match probably happened sometime after the aforementioned 1991 All Ireland matches.

Sorry to bother people about this but I can't seem to find any GAA based stats archive out there. Strange considering the popularity of the sport! Anyway, any info gratefully recieved.

I don't know what you're talking about UpMeath. I think you'll find Meath have to play two games to get to the Leinster final, the same amount that Kerry have to play to get to the Munster final.

In fact, all teams only have to play two unless to get to their provincial final unless they are involved in a preliminary round which happens in Ulster and Leinster, and the Ulster teams don't seem to have too much trouble finding Croker!

I think the problem with Leinster is just the quality of football.

    10 March 1991 - Dublin 0-11 Meath 1-8.

So the same year as the 3 championship draws. Dublin went on to win the league, beating Kildare in the final.

Thanks again Rooster! BTW where are you getting these stats so I don't have to bother you again? :)

Its just Dublin games I have. Its a number of years ago that I got them from somewhere on the net (think it was from a Dublin GAA site that no longer exists - can't remember the name of it). And accuracy is probably 90-95%, as I've spotted the odd mistake.
