Another New York Thread

    Hello,

I was going to be going J1 this summer but things didn't really take shape & I have to go to an event in Malaysia around September, so my plan now is to hit the states for a week or 2 and then head over to Malaysia after (for another week)...

I've never been to the states, and am particularly looking forward to seeing new york.

I'm going with my gf, and the plan at the moment is working out a bit like this:

    Mid/end August head to NY
    Stay for week/two
    Fly from NY to Malaysia
    Hang for week.
    London
    Home

Flights will come to about 1200 if I book soon enough (which I think is excellent)...

My question really is, what should I do in the US?

I'd like to spend a few days in NY but think if I'm staying for 1-2 weeks I'd have to go visit some other city/ies...

I don't really have any idea where in particular, maybe Boston, Philadelphia?

I'd like to get around on bus/train all for a reasonable price and at a nice relaxing pace...

So does anyone have any experience doing something like this or any suggestions?

I was in philly a few years back(We drove from New York) Also last summer i did a train ride from Chicago to Minnessota...Five//Six hours dam nearly killed us.

Philly is a cool city, Can be a bit dodgy but i was stayin with friends...ran up the ''ROCKY'' steps, Started off excellent and after about the 10th step i nearly kealed over :p .

On the NY trip we also did Washington from Philly(in car) Washington was fantastic, We stayed for 2 days.

    Hope this helps.

To see New York City properly, you should spend about 3 to 4 days. Long Island is nice if you want to hit the beach for a day. The 'resorts' out there are the hamptons, fire island, montauk etc.

Train trips to Phily, Washington and Boston are not that bad. A day or 2 in any of these cities will be enough.

Get your hands on a lonely planet book and you can find out a lot more in the east coast area that may interest you.
