Search Engine Optimization / Internet Marketing Work hard to find?

It is my impression that Search Engine Optimization / Internet Marketing work (particularily Search Engine Optimization) is very scarce in Ireland. This does not make a lot of sense because it is already established in the UK and US for some time now.

I would consider moving back to Ireland if I could locate Search Engine Optimization work but I have looked on the various job sites but I cannot find a thing.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Why do the majority of Irish businesses still rely on unorganic methods to drive visitors to their websites (e.g. Pay Per Click campaigns, ala Google Adwords) and fail to understand the benefits of quality SEO work?

Best bet is to try web development or marketing companies. Have you any other web related skills that are of high quality other then SEO?

Irish companies tend to be short sighted about many things.

I have worked in web development for approx 2 years so I am familiar with the technologies. To be honest though a lot of the web development and marketing companies offer SEO circa 1999 and I would be very suprised if their methods really work.

Maybe I just need to do the lone ranger on it and start up my own business. Anyone familiar with starting up business in Ireland (particularily as a one-man operation)?

    Unfortunately this is true sometimes.

SEO Ireland - I am interested in SEO. The Irish mentality is too sheep to be interested in your services.

Do you ever try to sell your services on http://www.scriptlance.com? I use them heavily.

Question: If I search for Search Engine Optimization SEO in google, what is Kilkelly SEO Services page rank?

Kilkelly SEO Services is less than one month old so a high ranking on Google is not to be expected. This is because Google places a penalty on new sites to prevent them from ranking high for the first few months, possibly 6-8 months. This penalty is called the Sandbox penalty and although never officially announced by Google it is definitely there. Also I would not target 'Search Engine Optimization SEO' as a keyphrase exclusively because there are websites that have a few years lead on my site for this keyphrase. It is better to target keyphrases that wil drive a lot targeted traffic to your website while at the same time being possible to achieve a high ranking for. If after a few years I continue to build up its popularity it will climbs the ranks for 'Search Engine Optimization SEO' of its own accord.

I simply can't believe this but it may indeed be the case. If it is true it is a sorry situation.

I don't know if there are many companies who specialise in SEO, but I would imagine that there are many PR / Marketing / Web-dev shops that do provide it as one of their services. What their effectiveness is, I don't know.

I know that SEO is a priority for the marketing people who look after our corporate site, and they have consultants providing keywords, static HTML pages etc.

If you have the experience you are implying you have, then I would assume you have a portfolio of "before and after" sites where you can demonstrate your effectiveness. I would be surprised if there is no work out there for you in this case.

WRT to the google adwords - I don't know if it is such a bad idea but it certainly shouldn't be a replacement to proper SEO.
