has anybody tried to get this to work with a prestige 623R-T1 modem supplied by esat? i have been looking at this site to get it to work. http://fp.mgillespie.plus.com/upnphelp.htm
they have a small little program to help you pass the tests but i cannot get test 7 & 8 to work. if i get 7 to work, 8 should work automaticaly.

Just in case anybody does not know, UPnP is used for automatic port forwarding for various programs.

    Hi,

I think your best bet is to try a few programmes and see if it works. I've tested the programme above and although it failed a few tests on different PCs, uPnP worked fine with MSN Messenger and BitComet.

Btw - what kind of setup do you have? (home network, single PC?)

ok lets forget uPnP as i don''t think my modem likes it.
how do i manually assign an address to a computer on the network?
I want my computer to be 192.168.1.33 and the other computer to be 192.168.1.34.

On my machine, I tried going to network connection in control panel. I right clicked on the Zyxel modem and clicked properties. i selected IP and hit properties. i clecked use the following IP address.
In IP address i put 192.168.1.33
    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

it still dosn't work. what else should i do? is there anything i need to enter in the router config?

    Check this out - http://portforward.com/zyxel/623R-T1-portforwarding.htm
There's a link in step 1 about setting up static ip addresses.
This is a very helpful site and I set my Router up using them.
How are you connecting the PCs to the Router?
I often connect two pcs to my router too, one by the rj45 connection and one by USB.
I've read that some providers don't allow you to do this. Not sure what Esats position is.
If you're using a Hub/Switch to network the PCs and then you have the Router connected to the Hub/Switch too you'll need some kind of proxy software I think.
Or you can use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) if you are running Win XP.
Have a look at this article - http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/sharing.htm
    Best of luck

The link I posted for sharing an internet connection is not the best, found one before that was nice and concise but I seem to have mislaid it.
    Here's a better one - http://www.gyre.co.uk/help/broadband/connection_sharing.php
Although seeing as your doing the same as myself for sharing then this is probably useless, ah well...
