Log in as Administrator and do a spyware sweep.

Try log in as yourself again. If no joy, log in as Administrator, got to the Documents and Settings folder, and rename the folder of your username to <username>.old

Log in as yourself again, and you should be presented with a fresh desktop.

Go to the Document and Settings folder again, and copy the Desktop, My Documents, Start Menu, and Favourites from the <username>.old folder to the <username> folder to restore your stuff.

Don't delete your <username>.old folder. There might still be stuff in there (particularly if you use a mail client).

No, copying over the My Documents folder should restore most of your saved files.

Some of your applications will "forget" your settings, and some games may forget your saved games. These can be restored by copying back Application Data or Local Settings folders for those applications.

The reason I don't suggest copying both of these folders to the new profile is because I suspect the problem that's occuring is due to something in these folders. :)
