    hi guys

    toolman here.

quick question - can i use a Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz Workstation with win xp pro and adobe premiere and photoshop etc. i.e. can any programme that supports win xp usr the 5.6 GHz that the dual Zeon is capable of putting out or is it a case of where the programme has to support the dual processor.

    thanks

    toolman

No, the dual xeons don't add up to give a total speed, they both run side by side at 2.8Ghz. Basically it means that you can have two seperate processes or programs running at 2.8Ghz. Some programs will use more than one process which means each CPU can be fully used. Photoshop for example may be able to use one process to work on the top half of an image and another to work on the bottom so it will run twice as fast. But the application has to be designed to do that, I'm not sure if photoshop is or not. Other than that dual processors are really only usefull for multitasking, i.e. you could have premier and photoshop both running at the same time each one using a seperate CPU so they don't slow each other down whereas a single CPU would have to do a little bit of premier, then stop and switch to photoshop, then stop again and switch back to premier etc.
