I take it that the mother board you are getting is also a SATA board? If not you will need a SATA to IDE Converter. You can pick these up anywhere.

In either case getting a new harddrive you will and should get a SATA cable with it. If not ask for it and tell them your not paying for the cable as it should be part of the package.

    Thanks for the reply :)
Well i'm ordering from komplett and i'm pretty certain the hard drive just comes as is(ie on its own without cables).

Had a look at the manual of the motherboard i'm gonna buy and its got 4 ide slots and 2 sata so there should be no problem with connectivity i'd imagine.

Also will i need anykind of power cables or converters for sata devices?

The board should come with 2 sata cables.

Ah Komplett great site. Last time I got a HD from there it came with a cable so you may get lucky but you also could be right and get it as is.

With regards to power, no you dont need any converters or that for SATA devices, if the board supports them then the standard power will do.

The only things that require extra juice really are the PCI Express graphics cards. If your thinking of one of those that will use PCIe make sure power supply will cover it otherwise your in trouble.

Actually another great site is dabs.co.uk. I order from there now and again and the longest I have been waiting is 4 days!!!

Well i'm gettin two sata hard drives so i reckon i'll just one cable, Theyre only €5 so even if they do come with cables at least i'll have spare. I'd say peats charge €10 for the same cable anyway, i hate having to give them my hard earned cash!

My recent MSI K8N Neo board came (from Komplett) with 2 S-ATA cables, the HDD just came in bubble wrap as expected.

Yeah they are robbing ******** alright. But they do have some good small form factor cases... thats about the only thing i'd be interested off them.

But yeah never a bad thing to have a spare cable floating about the place. Best of luck with the build and remember anti static wrist strap!!!! The amount of people that used to call me in IBM with defunct memory chips and the like only to find out they have been opening it and messing about!!! Static is a mother******

No anti-static strap for me, just gonna touch something metal every now and then ;)

Anyways thanks for all replies and advice, off to order the stuff now :D

Yeah thats the way to go. I always hold onto the inside of the case (unpainted metal). Does the job.
