Really should ask this in the windows Forum but my 2cents. When it loads and goes to desktop. Ctrl+Alt+Del and go to processes. Hopefully you know the program that may be jamming the startup. once stoppped uninstall the program. If not i know there is a virus that f*cks with explorer.exe
Try cancel that process and then try new process and type in explorer.exe if thats it and everything is ok run an AV program or antispyware.

Try starting it in safe mode too (press F8 when windows starts to boot, just after the bios messages). If it goes into safe mode ok it's an indication that there's something in the startup or possible a device driver causing problems. Try downloading AVG on another PC putting it on a cd and installing it and letting it do a full scan. It'll take a god while because the PCs in safe mode and can't access files as quickly but it could turn up the cause of the problem.
