OP - What chalk said - I had same problem - weird thing being I went to User CP and DST was already ticked. Refreshed this page and the time went from GMT to GMT + 1.

I find the time changes dependin whether or not I'm logged in

Yes, that's exactly the cause. When I logged in the time was fine.

it says gmt+1, but the time is right for me.

is it gmt+1 because of daylight savings time or is this just a typo?

Ireland is on GMT + 1 at the mo. Aka BST on the 'mainland'.

so basically GMT doesn't take into account daylight savings time, since we are in the same time zome as GMT

GMT never changes. However we change our clocks to suit the seasons.
