I thought this was a fantastic gig, absolutely faultless, can't wait to see them again at Oxegen!

I was really disappointed that they didn't play 'Length of Love' or 'Slow hands' though! They're probably their biggest songs and I can't believe they left them out of the set! :-(

Dont think they're playing oxegen.... they're playing support to Coldplay in Marley park.
(just in case you buy the wrong tickets :) )

Olympia. Good night. Not too sure about the support band. Spoon or something.

2FM described it as "Gig of the Year".

Yep, Spoon. Some of their stuff reminded me a bit of I Am Kloot. Pretty good I thought.

    Can't really go by that.
Gig of the year if you're an Interpol fan of course.... but if your not a fan of that type of music, you'd think otherwise.
There was a lot of hype about the gig though... Interpol seem to have an aura of coolness, but not as over hyped as Bloc Party, or as mainstream successful as Franz F.
Music journos always love to give that type of band "gig of the year" tag, as they try and gain cred themselves.

I was only repeating what Dan Hegarty said. No guarantee that it was actually true.

    hey, no worries mr angry.
I was just giving my view on music journos saying such things.
Thanks for letting us know though...
I wonder if Kylie was in contention for gig of the year.
I'm not a fan, but heard she puts on a crackin live show! :)

A good show. Certainly no gig of the year though.

It seemed a little subdued. Carlos showed very little of his awesome rock-moves, and Paul didn't even bother with inter-song mumbling and stood facing his amp more than the audience. It reeked of mid-tour boredom, I thought.

I was delighted when they started Take you on a cruise, not having heard
it live before, but was very dissappointed at the limp version of it
they churned out. There were similarly sloppy renditions of a number of tunes with a fair few timing mistakes and guitar mi****s.

Strange crowd too. Going nutzoid for Evil/Hands Away, while presenting blank
    confused stares to Leif Ericsson.

what a gig. they looked great and sounded equally great. was hoping to hear the new and stella was a diver..... the crowd was well up for it too, very male dominated though. ended up at the aftershow party, was unaware it was on there until daniel walked past me.. had to stop and look around. such nice guys.

    next up glastonbury!

Heh heh, noticed that too. Tis like, em...learning a new ehhh language? ;)

Excellent gig, pity I was destoyed with eejits trampling me from behind, tought I was gonna get man-humped at one point.I'm achin' bad, Ma...

And 90% of the photos I took look like I was looking through frosted glass during a hurricane, but what harm.

Kinda annoyed that Stella didn't get a look-in.

Did the poor baxterd find his glasses?!

I thought it was a fantastic gig, even though I'm not on first name terms with the band like some of you  Nor do I pour scorn on those who are less familiar with TOTB than Antics . I've been a fan of their gloomy oeuvre for couple of years now and this was the first time for me seeing them play, and boy can they play. I would have been disappointed if there had been a load of "GOOD EVENING DUBLIN!" rock banter, they're supposed to be bleak and introverted. Let the music speak, man. And the music says STFU and stop whinging.

    Well, that was constructive.

Overcrowded. I actually left where I was being crushed at the front to go to the side .. much more enjoyable, their playing wasn't nearly as tight as I've seen them before.. great gig, but not exactly memorable by any means.

Spoon were dead. I'm a fan of Kill The Moonlight but they just died a death.. nobody was interested unfortunaly, and they didnt create the sort of energy you need in the olympia.

Second time I've seen Interpol - better venue for them than the Village, that's for sure. I enjoyed the concert but again found the band very stand-offish. That's cool though, I'm there for music not gimmicks.

Having said that, if theres one thing I hate - it's an excessive wait between the support and main act. If I wanted to stand around for 45 minutes listening to **** pulsating dance music, I'd go to a club - and pay less than 30 bucks for the priviledge.

Too much from Antics I thought. Would like to have heard pretty much everything from TOTBL. Especially Hands Away. But what they did play was very good. Antics sounds much better live. Say Hello To The Angels was brilliant.

It was a good gig, nothing more. Thought their show at The Village two years ago was excellent but this time just fell flat.

Antics also sounded well. I was happy to hear Take You on a Cruise (I thought they were not playing it live) but the Olympia just went dead. Shít crowd tbh.

They also played for 70 minutes. I know I'm stating what's been said countless times before but paying something like €33 for just over an hour is a bit of a joke.

Of course, of course. Then again the show I saw them play in a friends loft in NYC in 2002 was far superior to that. And Carlos did more of his rock moves, and Paul engaged the audience and...and...and

What is this? A cool-off? I'm not sure if you people were at the same gig, but the one I went to in the Olympia was superb. The crowd I saw were going nuts for the band, but maybe they didn't like the 'cool' songs enough. Some of you people need to get a life TBH.

sw0ot they were shíte. You can all thank me later for ending that argument.

Crowd were very into it I thought - more familiar with the Antics stuff, and hence more responsive to same - but that's no big deal.

I was at the Village gig too - I would say it was about the same quality as the Olympia show. The sound setup in the village was worse - far too much bass, I remember being a bit annoyed at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Crowd annoyed me a bit (well, more than a bit, but then again I think I'm sure turning into a snob). I don't really think its "jumping around" music, and I was slightly miffed when people were jumpin all over the shop. Then again thats just me, people are entitled to do what they want.

Apart from that I really enjoyed it. Would have enjoyed more TOTBL songs, but there you go. Would have loved to hear The Specialist aswel.

Half considering going to Coldplay to see them again. They're also support U2 in Glasgow. I don't think I'll be going to that.

There's no need to get all defensive. They played well and it's good to see that you enjoyed them the first time round, I know I did. But of course I'm going to compare this to the last time I saw them, and I just left the Olympia gig feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

I agree, the sound was actually piss poor compared to the Olympia show.
