The subway is fine at any hour. Just be careful of what area you are travelling through.

The subways is fine, just be alert all the time. The bad thing is you don't get to see any of the city. It is quicker than then bus but with the bus you get the sights. Don't get a taxi during Rush hour as you will be sitting in traffic. Get a taxi home if you are out on the lock.....

Subway is fine, security has been tightened in recent years.

Grab a weekly ticket and hop on/off wherever suits

I've been to NY a couple of times on my own. Felt safer there than in many places I've been to!

subway is the only way to travel in NYC... I live only about an hour from the city, and when I visit, I try to use the subway as much as possible.. unless u need to get to a specific place real quick, it's cheap, and a great way to meet people!!!

Axel, also have a look at the New York Pass. www.newyorkpass.com I haven't used it as of yet but it's meant to be a good way to save money if you have intentions of sight seeing.

    Thanks everyone :)

Anyway, i've decided to go to Orlando instead

One last question; Whats the story with Visa's into the US for a week? I read you need a "machine readable" pasport, which i have, but is this it??

    Thanks in advance

You'll have to also fill out a visa at the airport which you will be given as you enter US customs at Dublin airport, after you go through departures. Theres normally a girl there who will assist you if you have any questions.

By the way - some of the US customs officers are nob heads - just giving you a warning.

Change some to most and you're spot on. Almost everyone I've experienced has been a fúcking cúnt. Arrogant bástards they are.
