Hi - anyone got the schedule for the VCPoker pub events happening in Dublin at the moment?

They sound like good fun; but can't seem to find the schedule anywhere...

These events are all sold out in advance.
I know people who turned up at 6 when registration was advertised for 7 and still did nt get a seat.

has anyone been to any of these events? I saw a couple of posts in another thread but not much detail. I'm thinking of heading to next weeks one in dun laoghaire. I rang the pub to find out details but they said all the details would be in the star newspaper next week.

Anyone know what the buy-in is, are there re-buys or topups? Whats the prize pool and how many entrants?

They don't sell tickets in advance - its first come first served on the night. I missed out in the Old Mill so got there early at 6pm in Scholars in Firhouse last night and got a seat no problem....only problem was the delay getting started.

120 seats and its a €10 freezeout so no rebuys. As its a promotional event (I think aimed at getting newbies interested) theres no rake so its 1200 in the prize fund. 1st gets 500, 8th gets 20 and I couldnt see the bits in between.

8 to a table and its them octagonal tables and proper chips so its not a bad setup for your tenner but the blinds were well harsh. You start with 200 chips and the blinds are 50/100 so you only have 20 times the big blind (my only point of reference is Betfair STTs where you start with 65 times the big blind so I found this harsh).

After 20 minutes blinds go to 100/200, then moved up as follows every 15 minutes:

    200/400
    400/800
    800/1200
1200/1600 (not sure what the small blind was at this level and this was the last level I was in for).

I appreciate they needed to wrap it up by closing time but when you consider they didnt stop the clock for moving players between tables (which was poorly organised) it makes for very few hands at each level.

Standard was very low - lower than online in my experience. Top pair on the flop was the trigger for big bets in most eyes. It was my first ever tournament so I wasnt too disappointed to go out 19th from 120 but I left thinking theres very few players left who I wouldnt expect to beat even 6 times out of 10. I didnt get many good hands but was happy with what I made from what I had - my preflop raises were treated with shock and meant I got a few callers in it just to keep me honest. I feel this approach would have paid off were the blinds slower but you cant afford to play as tight as I wanted when you need to win regular pots just to keep ahead of the blinds.

And so it was down to the last hand before the break: I had 3000, blinds were 1600 and I was the big blind. 2 callers - SB plus one perpetual limper (who in my move of the day I had bluffed out of it on the flop with a 500 bet after my 400 preflop raise when I knew he had paired his ace to my paired queen) so I go all in to 3000 with my JTclubs. Limper calls, SB folds. Limper had ATo and though I end up just missing a straight, neither of us hit and he took it with A high. I reckon I didn't have much option but to go all-in cos otherwise it was a 10 minute break to come back with less than the big blind.

I was at the one in Scholars on Wednesday. Structure was very harsh but as said they have to wrap it up by closing time. They can accomodate 120 starters and were full up by about 7pm. Started around 8pm with 8 players to a table self dealing and a couple of VC people overlooking and sorting out any problems. Its basically a crapshoot from start to finish with 2000 starting chips and blinds 50/100 going up sharply.

I went out after about 5 hands when my pocket kings ended up in a 3 way pot against AA and 55. The 5's won of course.

Stayed around to watch the match and got caught up in the craic surrounding the tournament. Plenty of people stayed around to watch the last couple of tables and some of the players honsetly didn't know what was going on. Some were still struggling with how many cards to deal to each player despite being at it for a couple of hours. The drink didn't help the learning curves of the new players but added to the atmosphere. Winner was a guy who I've seen in the Fitz and it was obvious from about 2 tables out he was about the best of what was left. One of the ladies who plays in the Fitz came 4th. Fair play to them for surviving in the madness that was going on around them.

Final table took about half an hour as with 240,000 chips split amongst 8 players and blinds of 8000/16000 someoone was all in every other hand.

Winner gets €500 and a seat in the VC Pub Final. Winner of this goes onto the IPT tournament in June worth about €100,000 (i think).

Its a cheap tournie and a good idea for getting people involved who wouldn't normally play but if its proper poker your after I wouldn't bother. However if you like a pint while playing and are feeling lucky enough pop into one for the laugh.

I won the first one at Spawell.
It is a good craic if you are there to have a drink and a laugh, but don't expect to get serious poker out of it.
Blinds zoom up, and you have gotta be very lucky early on and get dealt a few hands.
Standard is very poor, but it IS good fun.
    Highly Recommended.
