If you had the professional version of Norton Antivirus you could use the unerase wizard to partially recover the files. However it should be noted that once you've deleted the files the computer will start to write over the space they were located in as it would now be regarded as free space.

If you've done any type of data writing to the disk (which you have), chances are you can pretty much kiss some of them goodbye. Other than that I can point you in the direction of http://www.runtime.org/, who have quite a nice little tool conveniently called GetDataBack.

The trial version of GetDataBack will let you check out all the files it recovers before paying for the full version to be able to save them. Have used it recently and found it excellent.

Do a web search for microsoft's "undelete" (think that's the name). Free but slow. Used it in college loads of times.

When you delete files, it just removes the first letter of the filename and marks the data section on the drive F.A.T. as writeable. If you don't write too much to your hdd between now and recovery attempt you should be able to get most of your files back.

    www.ontrack.com

Easy Recovery pro (reqs a 2nd HD) but works nearly 100% of the time.

How much did you love your Mp3s €129.99 worth?

Free ones dont work all the time the one above has never failed me when other have deleted stuff or formatted HDs.

rest2514 good but only one file/folder at a time, if they were all in a folder , "happy days" restores by copying to another drive though so you need free space somewhere else

undelete IIRC doesn't work on NTFS - if you have fat 32 then worth a shot

don't write anything to the disk if possible including downloads as they will overrite the files - don't run scandisk or defrag or game over

should have used ghost backup mate

its a brilliant program that splits your HD into partitions.
then you can make a ghost image file of your main partition (side of your HD that has all your important files) and saves the image on the small partition you have created
and if you delete anything or cause your pc to not start up at all you just pop in a floppy a start up and the program puts your pc back to the same as the date you made the backup
must have for tweakers and newbies :D

Wouldn't work well for mp3s as they're compressed already. The "small partition" would need to be pretty much the same size as the original. It'd still be backed up but an external backup solution would be recommended in this case. 1300 (3-4 minute at say 192kps) mp3s would comfortably fit on 2 DVDs
