Im going on a trip to Italy with my GF next month and Im wondering what is the difference between Milan/Linate and Milan/Orio airports.

Is either further out? And what transport facilities are there from the airports?

    Cheers.

Don't know anything about Orio but the other two are Linate and Malpensa and are easy enough to make your way out from. Linate is the closer of the two and there's buses that will bring you into the centre. Around 4 years ago I seem to remember it being around £20-25 to get in by taxi so make what you want from that. The bus should be cheap enough.

Malpensa was further out but I always preferred it because it had a train link that suited me better. The train brings you in to a train station within the city that has a metro link called Cadorna on the red line. It cost about £6 again about 5 years ago.

Orio isn't actually in Milan at all (I'm suprised at Aer Lingus pulling such a ryanair stunt).

It's in an area called Bergamo which is about 50k outisde of Milan to the North.
Check out this page to give you an idea :

I'd go for Linate any time...Orio is in the middle of nowhere (although it can be handy for getting to the italian grand prix in September as it's closer to Monza).
The map on the Orio website makes it look like Linate is outside Milan. It's on the outskirts but only a 20 minute bus journey to the centre on a 15 to 20 € taxi fare !

Yes I would head for Linate also...when you come out of the airport I would advise getting the single decker bus ( I think it's a No. 73) that heads to Piazza San Babila...it costs 1 euro to get from Linate to the centre of Milan if you use this bus. Yes I said 1 euro !!

€48 return...that's a ridicilously low price considering the taxes are about €20!

Go to Malpensa with Alitalia, it's got better transport links to the city.

€48 is an astonishing price for out Friday and back Sunday - can you PM me the dates? I have a friend in Milan and at those prices I'll be over like a shot. I was only looking earlier at their special offers and the best I could fpr May do was going Thursday and back Monday for €136 or so. I presumed the weekends would be more expensive.

The only problem with the EI Milan Linate flight is it leaves at 7.10am, so it's a very early start to the day - otherwise it's a nice trip. Great flying over the Alps.
