    http://maps.google.com/

Click on satelite(top right corner) and use the sliders to zoom.
No images of Ireland yet (at the street level) but if it ends up like the USA detail it'll be great.
For reference I tried a few places I've been to in the 'States and it's accurate as hell. Could even make out the swimming pool of house I stayed in.

    Whatever next...

There are maps of Ireland. I used to work for a company that did it. Pretty much doing what Google are doing now with their maps and being able to txt directions to closeist resturant etc.

Twas a few years ago now though.

Oh I've no doubt there's maps of here, but just google haven't gotten round to putting everything on the database this system uses.
    Or something...

    Eh no ..

Its more because they bought the company that did mapping in America.

well obviously they're going to do the US first, since that's where their biggest market for this type of system is, but surely they'll be doing the rest of the planet....or at least the inhabited bits.

I have been using that website extensively to plan my holiday in America this June. It's a god send. Extremely user friendly and very detailed. The colours are pretty and I like the bubbles as well :)

    A.

The satelite stuff is pretty cool. The detail in New York, for example, is amazing.

    www.dto.ie

Go to Journey Planner - gives the best route in and about dublin and also gives satelite views if you magnify enough!

Am i missing something or where do the satellite photos come into it? All the mapping i'm seeing, while still quite cool and all, is vector based.

This seems like a semi-appropriate thread in which to post that Google Ireland (Google's European HQ) are currently hiring a load of people in a wide range of different (not just tech-related) jobs.

Cool, was that iol.ie perchance, I used to use them quite a bit for showing foreign friends where to go in Dublin!

    Back O/T:

That's weird, I was just reading some PCmag I bought over Xmas, and one of the news bits was about Google buying this map company!

Google bought Keyhole a few months back. I think they are going to be rolling out an expanded version over the next few months.

I just hope for some decent mapping software covering Ireland.
Autoroute was good for Ireland in its 2001 edition, but then it went all poo. Roads missing all over the shop.
