Power Problems

Has anybody heard of any problems like this.
I built a new pc 2 - 3 weeks ago but it's got a problem, it won't run in my bedroom but runs perfectly in the kitchen?
I share an apartment with some friends so leaving it in the kitchen/living room area is not an option.
If I use the machine in my bedroom windows will freeze and stop working within a few minutes.
I'm guessing it's a power issue, problem with the socket?
I've tried disconnecting everything from the machine, leaving it running with bare minimum, mobo cpu gcard and 1 hdd, no fans, lights, optical drives or extra hdd's, and still no difference!
My old pc worked fine in the room, i'm lost any suggestions?
    My specs are as follows:

    Monitor: Samsung V710T 17" TFT
    Sound: Creative P5800
    CPU: AMD 3000+ 939 winchester
    Mobo: ASUS A8N Deluxe
    RAM: TwinMos 2 x 512mb pc3200
    HDD: Maxtor 200gb SATA
Drives: Samsung DVDROM, NEC 2510A DVDRW
    PSU: Vantec Stealth Aluminium 520W
    Case: CoolerMaster Stacker

    Thanks in advance.

If it is a power problem get your self a good quality surge protector (maplin have one on special at the moment for €20) and see if that makes a difference.

I already have a surge protector on it,
No way i'm going to spend that kind of cash on a machine and skimp on protection for it.
Surge protector is not an issue, I think the machine just isn't getting enough power....why else would it work in one room and not in any other?
btw the only other electrical device in my room ia a radio alarm clock so the socket is certainly not overloaded.
    Thanks for the reply.

Can you compare what temps the system runs at in the kitchen compared to your bedroom ? It might be close to overheating in the kitchen and if your room's a bit warmer it might put it over the edge.

Other than that, the sockets in your room are probably on a different circuit to the ones in the kitchen. If there's fuses as opposed to circuit breakers, check the fuse for your room, maybe get a higher rated one. Keep in mind that all bedrooms are probably on the same circuit as yours, whereas the kitchen may have a seperate one designed to take the strain of cookers/ovens/microwaves/fridges/washing machines/misc all operating at the same time.

Temps are not an issue, not at all, I forgot to mention that the cpu cooler is not stock it's a Zalman 7700 alCu and the cpu generally runs around the high 20's mark, which is very low, the case is very roomy, the cables are all neat and tidy to maximise airflow and in general the kitchen is hotter than my bedroom.

The fuse thing I will definitely look into this could well be the case, thanks for the tip.
    Anybody else got any ideas?
