    Try this site http://www.phrantic.com/scoop/tutor.htm
It is a little heavy going but is extremely good and goes in to great detail of Java and OOP

I've always found the best books are the O'Reilly ones, although I had an excellent Dietel & Dietel C++ book before, it's like a college text book.

Anyways, head on over to http://java.oreilly.com and take a look at "Learning Java" and "Java in a Nutshell"

Learning is a beginners book and Nutshell is a reference book.

If you can get to Cork, then check out Micromail, they have all the books you'll ever need there.

Thanx ladz! I may take you up on that offer Jag. I couldn't decide from a plethora of £50 books that looked more like paperweights so I picked up a little book for a tenner - "Teach Yourself Java - 2nd Edition" by Chris Wright and is just what I'm looking for. No Waffle straight into it. I'll get one of those bigger books after I've done my assignment biggrin.gif

I'd recommend this book if you have basic programming knowledge http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0130273635/qid=974653459/sr=1-1/026-1294148-7300402

A very good book and one that you can download at no cost (always a good selling point) is called Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel the book and sample code can be found on his site. http://www.bruceeckel.com
You can also download his other book Thinking in C++ if youve nothing better to do. Their both in PDF format.
    Enjoy.
