I was at the recent Voodoo gig, I thought they rocked - but the set was very short, its Patti Smith meets Iggy Pop if that's your taste.

*** 15.04.05 JULIETTE and THE LICKS, Voicst, The Village, 7.30pm, 25euro

After their tour of Ireland that included a sold-out date at the Voodoo Lounge, Dublin in February, Juliette and The Licks have announced that they will perform in the Village, Dublin on 15 April 2005.

Juliette Lewis formed Juliette and The Licks in 2003 with the intention to revolutionise commercial rock n roll. Over the past two years Juliette and The Licks have built from the ground up to develop an explosive live show that is to be reckoned with. Juliette is ferocious as a front woman while guitarists Todd Morse and Kemble Walters provide strong rifts. Add to this bassist Paul III and drummer Jason Morris and you can easily see why Juliette and The Licks have earned illustrious comparisons to MC5, Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

Juliette and The Licks released their highly acclaimed debut EP ...Like A Bolt Of Lightening in October 2004 and release their first full album, You’re Speaking My Language in May 2005.

Up 5euro on last time, hope the set exceeds 45 minutes this time!

Seen them in Cuba in Galway, They are very good live, although the crowd was kinda there just to see her and not the music. she jumps around like a nutter though and is really into it so I was quite impressed!

Were there many at the gig in Cuba? I note this time she is only doing the capital cities on this tour. It was the same in Dublin, movie-tyre-kickers like myself, but she was good enough that hopefully she will convert people to 'the band'. She's got the Iggy moves and the Patti Smith snarl, she'll go a long way!

Read a review of her album in the Independant, they're not fans, in fact it's fair to say that they don't like her or her management! Something about limiting the questions they were allowed ask to only her music. Fair ****s to her I say!

Anyone have spare tickets for this?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

That was absolute and utter shíte. Stage presence maybe, but nothing else. They most definitely aren't punk.

how long was her set ??

i uhh managed to acquire her EP/album(whatever you wanna call it)
she's only ok, i dont think i couldve justified paying 25 euro to see her,
maybe if she plays in a bigger venue with a good crowd...but not as it currently stands

I reckon the set was barely 40 minutes. You can't expect much more with only one E.P. i guess.

she does have a new album coming out soon, thought that she might play something from that :(

    voicst any good ??

Couldnt hear the vocals too well at all, although that was just a mix problem. From what I could hear she seems to be fairly decent.

I love the way you didn't mention once that her music is any good. The fact that it is complete shíte of course wont stop it being sold by the bucket load.

    It's not fúckin punk anyway.

I really can't class them as anything but boring tbh.

Lol what spa said Juliet and the Licks was punk?

edit: The bass player maybe. He's pure punk. I'd spit on him anytime. :D

was at the gig and thought they were amazng. Very tight and worked really well together, lots of energy and fantastic stage presence considering the tiny stage. she is an excellent singer and there is no difference from her live set compared to her album. She will be big once she gets onto a proper record label that can promote and sell her to the public.

I agree with everything here apart from her being an excellent singer. There's a real feeling of singer placement here. It's like she went "K I'm and actress and theres feck all going, you there, get me a really good band and put me in as lead singer".
The band were flipping great. She had great stage presence but you could just feel the band were carrying her. I got that impression anyway.

Really enjoyed the gig apart from that, except some of the saps in the crowd. Like the one who went "Wow man, if you like these you should listen to The Killers". That made me angry.

    And! Not punk. Lol.
